    On the right track...

Overall I like the design - clean and simple. I have nothing against the drop shadow except I would make it lighter so as to not grab attention from the button.

The blue bottom line of the navigation menus does make the layout look broken. I would put it right under the top gray box and use it as a separator between the gray and white box.

    Minor glitches.

I really think you should re-evaluate the decision of adding that gradient blue background. It was really distracting and design-wise is not really attractive.

As far as usability goes, I had no problem navigating the site; but the tabs had no action-call besides the default pointer. A simple underline or a shift from white to black during hover would do a great improvement.

The layout worked fine for me in both IE8 and Firefox.

I liked how the tables were styled in 'Current Series' and the information there was easy to consume; unfortunately the table layout (for that page) broke a little in IE6 and 7 and need fixing; unless you're one of those who have quit those browsers. The 'archive' button also had styling problems in IE6.

I guess that's it. Some minor glitches but overall I think, for a church, the site is adequate.

Too Many Distractions, especially the gradients.

There's much to be improved. The layout is fine but your use of too many colors and distracting gradients is killing the design.

Less colors, use subtle gradients instead, and and simplify.

I have taken the feedback on board from the site and submitted a new design. I would appreciate your feedback. Cheers, Stephen.

I like the subtle details you put on the site and the header is great - clean and simple.

Navigation is clear and easily distinguished between priorities.

It could look more attractive unless you're heading for a more conservative look.

    Red Box

Posted on Feb 27, 2010 at 1:12 AM

I would decrease the size of the red box border. It is very overwhelming and audiences could not focus on the content.

There is a problem in typography here.

I like your contact box however.

    Unnecessary effects.

The color scheme is fine, not great but will do.

I agree with Peter Georgiev, the outer glow of the text below is distracting. You want to sell the products, not the text.

As for the others, I suggest lessening the amount of bevels, embosses and glows on the design. Only use subtle amounts of them.

Heading is too noisy, get rid of those thumbnails. It doesn't seam in with the design.

    Colors

The text is fine so I'd do more work on the mark.

Somthing just doesn't feel right and I think it's the colors. They just don't 'pop'. I also think that stroke of the box is little too think. Maybe lessen it about 1 or 2 pixels? Try experimenting with the golden proportion on that one.

    Improved but still needs fixing

Posted on Feb 27, 2010 at 12:52 AM

The navigation is more clear than the last one but I still feel that the design is too common.

There's tonnes of Wordpress themes websites out there and competition gets stiff everyday. I feel that this will not attract enough.

    First impressions are always important.

Thansk Fenson, the products actually have their own domains and landing pages (very sales driven) and this will be more of a consolidation, so I hope this will balance things out :) Cheers

    overall design

The design is ok but I just don't see it sync with the company website. Besides, it doesn't really promote a design firm. More like an accounting firm.

    footer

Posted on Nov 19, 2009 at 4:18 PM

I would try to give the footer a different color and create more contrast on the design. But make sure not to make it stand out more than the main content.

    change the typeface

Posted on Nov 19, 2009 at 4:02 PM

I think the mark is great but probably you could change the typeface to a less childish one like an adult handwriting rather than a child's.

I appreciate the simplicity. But I'm not too sure about the typography. It doesn't really say 'fun education'

if you can't lose the saucer, make it smaller

Posted on Nov 19, 2009 at 5:26 AM

I love the concept but the saucer does get in the way. Probably you could adjust the width of it to just a little bigger than the cup base.

the background. i'll leave it white.

Posted on Nov 19, 2009 at 5:16 AM

everything looks fine but I'm not so sure abut the background. The radial gradient doesn't seem to transition well. Maybe use a lighter grey.
