About Me:

I am an artist from South Carolina, currently living in Lancaster, SC, but to me, Charleston will always be my home. I have always been interested in art and design, even before I knew what art was, drawing since before kindergarten and painting since the time i was old enough to not eat it . To me, the final image is the most important aspect of art and/or design. I tend to pay tribute to those considered 'avant guarde': ones who push the limits, conceptually and visually, of design. One of my favourites is E. E. Cummings, who i never understood until i 'looked' at his work. Cummings showed that typography and layout could be just as important in communicating an 'image' as colour and contrast. another is jasper johns, who included typography in much of his work (he did the american flags series, if you haven't seen his work outside of that, you should definitely check it out! and he was from SC). I have recently begun dabbling in graphic and web design, as i needed a website/portfolio in which to display my work and promote it to galleries. Graphic design, though more technically oriented and objective, is an extension of visual art which i find to be a challenge that is helping to refine my skills as a painter, and has been causing me to focus on the overall composition of painting, incorporating elements of typography and print within my work.
