Hi Swart,
The proportion in relation to other items got me right away as a distraction away from the message. Just a few Items if you changed would make a difference in the right direction. The pencil size smaller, the tacks, paper clip and computer more to the size of relation to other side items.
The Background has a close up of the wood, maybe a more distant one, So, it feels the paper is at a distance with the rest of the stuff. Then place the words on top of the distant papers. or a different background altogether.
If the client is stuck on it, I would let him know the proportions really draw attention away from the message... if I'm spending time trying to figure out what is odd about the pics. Especially, if it is representing a design type studio?
The clipped on items look like they are floating with no shadows to hold it down.
I would maybe try aligning the start top of the logo bunch to the text to the right of it under "From Our Blog"
For the message of clean and elegant trying to get across... this does not say clean and elegant to me. It says busy designing in the office without a desk, without care to proportion.
Although the concept is fun and the colors are nice. I like how you wore the paper down a bit.
