Well for all the reasons this design has been criticized, my eye was attracted to it. I like the black and white image. I find that stylish in an environment where there's so much color. I very much like how the navigation harmonizes with it.
The suggestion I have are to bring structure to the layout by right aligning the top navigation, so to frame the image with the logo being left aligned.
I agree that the "Home" button below is redundant, for one, and draws attention for not particular purpose. The text below the image can be left aligned with the 5 slide buttons right aligned, again, to frame the image.
Tell me when this template is ready I would very much like to use it, for a blog.

Thanks Kai for the suggestions. On the live version I have already right aligned the nav and slider buttons and I am happier with it that way. The home button is meant to display the name of the current page, such as "Blog" or "Features" or "Portfolio" so the user knows the page he is viewing. I am not sure how to make it less redundant on the home page, maybe "Welcome".
The theme is almost ready, it will be posted on themeforest once it is.
