It clear to see you put in a lot of work for this concept, so first of all, congratulations for that.
Secondly, I find the first, second & seventh logos the most effective, however the bear's design seems's to be a little off, mostly because of the stroke that comprises the bridge of the bear's nose.
The limited colour scheme of black and white also works well. I only have one question, and that is how is a bear seen as too feminine?

It's always difficult to read a clients mind when they don't tell you specifics in words. When he said the bear is too feminine, I think he was talking about smooth lines. So far, seems like he's wanting a more "blockish" design. More rough and rugged, rather than something "flowy" (haha, sorry for the use bad adjectives!)
