Any of these would be significant improvements over the old logo, but I think you need a little more engagement. Things just aren't completely connecting.
The 1st one looks nice but the Kiwi doesn't really fit where it's at. Try moving it around a bit maybe it would make more sense in a different location. The second one might be interesting if you use the shape as the first part of the K. I'd definitely stay away from gradients on this one, it looks much nicer in the 1st (matte) version. I'd darken vacations a little bit though.
Another suggestion would be to stylize the kiwi shape a little bit and use that as a mark instead of trying to combine it with the words. Maybe give it a feel like it is traveling - see my attached for quick idea.

Patrick, actually I had thought of that as well, just after I posted the concept... your #2 is the one that originally came up with however, even here in NZ some people are confused about the koru symbol means, so I tried implementing the kiwi, I actually think it works quite well over the w as it looks like it's foraging in the grass... (that's what kiwis do)...
But I appreciate your feedback and will try some different ideas...
