The site is clean and I generally know what you are going for. On several of the pages, I like to dynamic scrolling tabs.
I don't know where most people will be spending their time when they come to the website. Is it the Forum section or the Groups section? The stories part also has a forum, but how is that related to the main forum section?
The logo is a little boring too. I'm unsure what it is. Books?
The follow us icons don't need the words underneath them. Everyone knows what they are already.
Besides maybe being a character in one of the stories, I don't know what the girl is doing there. She definitely draws my eye, but it goes away from where I think you want people to go.

Just to give some more feedback on what you've said - the groups section is a throw-away idea - it would be nice if people used them, but I'm not too fussed if they don't. At one point I thought it could be a good idea to give each story it's own group, rather than a forum, but decided against it.
