Yup, stay with the first one without all the layering type. Keep it as simple as you claim. AND emphasize your message. I'm having a hard time actually understanding what these guys do. What kind of projects are they referring to?
I like the footer idea but I recommend you to work with a grid layout to get a cleaner look.
