I think you did a great job. When I first saw it, I didn't really love it, but after looking at it for a while, I started to like it. I thing I think threw me off was the navigation bar. Try changing that to something else to fit with the style of the body and footer. Again: I really like it. Good work!

Although the grunge or whatever you call it in the top part of the page is good, try making it more interesting with a better bg img. For the navbar I suggest you try using a torn of thick paper, similar color to the body part.

I agree there is something off with the nav, I tried to make it look like post it tabs but it conflicted with the tabs on the left for the post dates.
Any ideas that would make this concept more engaging? Is it the colors that you find lack-luster? Lack of Imagery?
