    colour

    Shadus

In what programmes are you using for design? I just want to be sure that you understand what is meant by using colour because I think you think when the critiquers say to use colour, you are using one colour only...

Might I suggest that you break it down into different segments: 1. logo - this is a vital part of any site, this needs to tell a story or at least give an idea to what this is all about. Your site is called Tech Tyrant News so maybe create a logo that is a tyrant holding a newspaper or something (be a cartoon character) the font needs to be crisp yet funky, I'd suggest a sans serif, maybe like "he's dead jim" or even something with rounded corners

    1. Menu's in my opinion, should always be written if you want to have a flash lil icon next to it do it, but make em 3d and cool (vecteezy.com)

    2. Refrain from using one colour all over, use different colours, header might be in black with a pattern over lay and the bg in a grey or pale colour, and boxes have rounded grey borders...

I really hope you nail this, because you are starting to go from bad to worse, if you need a idea look at my concepts, basic layout might help.

    The blue

The blue is very harsh on the eyes, i would dull that down a fair bit.

Its very very simple, like amatuer simple, but sometimes that works for the desired subject.

    Blue color, please!

After reviewing your first design, I believe you improved some items, and you came with some good solutions for some problems. The design became minimalist, which gives the user a better experience. But there are several items to change. The blue is very strong. Try a more soft blue, with some traces of green and/or orange. Other thing to work on is the iconography used at the top navigation bar (it should be directly understood and graphically more interesting). Beware of round corners (some are distorted). Keep this in mind and you'll get to the top of it.

    Not bad

But you don't want to insult the intelligence of the viewer cause it might come off as kids website. A very good kids website though! Tone the blue down some and add words to the icons because even though some of us are web familiar, some don't do a lot of exploring and might be afraid if the mess something up. I like the content areas and to visualize what "technology" might look like when designing you logo. Clean, crisp, and new. Just think about when you first bought a new computing device. Your logo can translate that emotion as well.

    Blue

It's very content focused and clean

Maybe have some text appear on hover over the icons, might not be clear what they represent

Logo could do with being a bit bigger and the search magnifying glass could work quite well inside the text field

If you could tone down the blue/get another shade in there too it would be a bit easier on the eyes

    Too simple...

Posted on Sep 22, 2009 at 11:24 PM

You definitely achieved your objective. It is very readable and content focused. I would make the header/logo a bit larger and a different color so can stand out and let readers know what site they're on. The color scheme is a little too simple also. I think monochromatic color scheme will spice up the page without taking away the focus on the content itself. You're on the right track though. Looks good!
