It just seems like a ordinary font (perhaps Times?) and I would have went with something more bold and serious, maybe like Myriad Pro - unless it was client specific . Otherwise I love it.
I'm with you on this, Lauren. Myriad would be too modern to fit with the rest of the design. Garamond is a classic that's hard to beat. If you're really looking for a headline type that will fit with the bracket motif, you might consider Journal, which has a similar feel. Otherwise, I think this is pretty good. There's too much text, but that's pretty typical for clients like this, right? The only other thing you should consider is reducing the size of the bullets in the interior (or maybe making them a tint of the brown). Right now they pop off the page a little too much.
Great design, though! Sure to please your client.
Thanks so much for taking the time to register for this site and leave a thoughtful comment, Brock!
Heh, "too much text" is a comment I've received from everyone who has looked at the design. Oh well, that part can't be helped, so I try to make it look as good as possible and not be too intimidating!
Bullets reduced. Thanks for noticing the details :)
I love Discover A new...title. My eyeballs just dwell on this lovely font and design.
Nice repetitive touches. It is funny, not much changed, but it looks more polished now.
I think brochures are the hardest to design. Maybe it is because I am responsible for everything and have never even been given copy, or should I say asked for copy.
Thanks Jennifer!
You're right, not a whole lot has changed, but I too feel like it's more polished. I wish I could find some more medical illustrations for it, though. The chiro doesn't have any good photos of the office, so I would have to take them, and I'm not really a fantastic photographer (I can't make mundane machines look interesting through angle or lighting).
I did have a little bit of control over the copy (like several times I asked the copywriter to adjust text because I had a widow I couldn't get rid of), but the chiro did want all the text there.
It looks clean, which is good. One thing to think about is to put captions under the photos. I guess if you are mainly using stock photos it may not work as well. Since there is so much text, ppl will first be drawn to the photos, and captions will help decide if they want to read certain sections.
Also, on the title, think about making the words "A New Path To" smaller case. I think that would perfect the flow of the title. Good job, good photo choices. I like the watermark-type images on the inside panels.
The square brackets around the header seem out of place to me. Your image and your text are all about open / free / healthy and then you have your text jammed into this unnecessary box.
Also, the image looks a little too "stock photo" for my taste, even ignoring the obvious watermark.
Everything else I like.
At first I wasn't sure about this design but I don't think i would have done anything different. You hit the goal of the project and the target market. It's a difficult subject to make look appealing but you did a great job. Love the textures in the backgrounds. Good job!
Great layout, and if the info was client supplied< i don't think you could get around that. Are the pics going to be provided by the client, or you just put them in for presentation purposes? Really digging the background image. It makes it feel more tied in to what is being advertised.
Looks good. Perhaps move Dr Stafford's photo to be next to his bio? That's about the only change I could suggest.
Thanks, Doug! The font is Garamond Premier Pro (throughout), which I thought lent itself to the classic, warm feeling I wanted for this version of the brochure. I think Myriad would be too modern for this design in particular, but it's a nice sans that I do use quite often.
