    Lack of softness and subtlety

Posted on Sep 15, 2009 at 4:41 AM

I think functionally the design is great, and it is the main point of design, so congratulations on a job well done in that area.

Yet emotionally the logo and the site are not engaging me at all. Everything speaks of a construction zone - logo looks incomplete, screaming primary colours are suitable for "Watch your head!" and "Wear your helmet!" warnings, not for gently leading the eye of the viewer, there are hard edges everywhere, the black text on the white background contributes to the feeling of general heaviness.

I would try to add some subtlety, replace some of the filled colour blocks with more gentle textures (not necessarily gradients or shadows, but perhaps a few ornamental patterns), to give a more welcoming impression, rather than hitting the visitors on the head.

Yet if your goal was to create an impression of boldness and recklessness, dire searchers for work, then it is a goal met :) Unfortunately, you don't state which emotional goals you were trying to achieve, if any.

Best of luck with you site, I hope you will be able to find my comments useful (even if you disagree :))!

I agree with Anton. The links should be with other color. The font and color make the site "flat". Combine different fonts and colors for the heads and body text.

    Proffesional look

I really like the minimalistic design. Maybe you should have links in a different color to make them stand out.

Thanks for your comment. Just to make sure I perfectly understand and take it into account, which links are you talking about? the weblinks inside an iCV or on the portal? I definitely try to improve the look and feel of the titles part inside the iCV... Cheers Anne

I can see this website really developing as it's only a Beta Version at this point...

Add tag line descriptor, move me on the net.

Posted on Sep 15, 2009 at 12:22 PM

It's not clear instantly what the site does - maybe add a tag line?

    • the Me On The Net column feels too wide, and in an area where it seems of utmost importance. Could you move it to the right and put news in it's place? Or better yet, projects in it's place?

That's it! Beautiful work so far, and original in my opinion. Keep at it :)

Thanks for your comment Shwan, and yes of course I can change things how I want because it is a widget system, that allows drag and drop and with a drop down menu to personalize every section. If you do your iCV, you'll see you can do exactly what you want (on both columns about colors, title and contents!) Cheers Anne

I like minimal design...make it simpler than this.
