    Looks ok

I like the style. The font on the tabs doesn't fit in though.

Thanks for the comment, do you mind clarifying at all? As in, were you hoping to see a more traditional font there or something equally stylized but different?

Yes, I think you should either use the same font as the headlines or the logo. I found a blog post about fonts that might interest you: http://www.noupe.com/design/mixing-multiple-fonts.html

Thanks, that article was actually a big help. The font I have used on the tabs is actually the same font for the sub-text in the logo (what 'Web Dude' is written in). That being said, would you change both the tabs & the logo sub-text?

I don't mean to sound defensive at all, but I did attempt to utilize the font in at least two places. However, if a fellow designer didn't notice, I'm willing to take a second look and make alterations under the assumption that others will think it looks awkward as well.

Needs a unique concept or idea.

Posted on Sep 14, 2009 at 4:18 PM

Good start and layout of information, but there are a few things you could do to make it more personal.

    • modify the header to have some theme or additional design elements (illustration, graphics, etc,)

    • add some portfolio work to the home page on the site, and rather than starting with the blog as home, link up recent blog posts and recent portfolio work on the home page as it's a multi function site

    • your twitter updates could probably be organized as less important information, right now they're big and since the eye moves from left to right, they're very apparent

    • the blog article headers have that feather, or line graphic to the left of them, which takes up a ton of unnecessary horizontal space, you should polish that out and do something more minimal

Overall, nice start for a great layout - it just needs another day or two worth of original thought.

    Hope this helps,

    Shawn

Thanks this does help, I think swapping the blog and tweets and eliminating the quill/feather will be my first step, followed by adding some recent projects to the home page. Thanks for the equally detailed feedback.

    Don't like the menu

Posted on Sep 14, 2009 at 4:20 AM

Not sure about the menu myself, could do with some work, needs something more to it.

The overall site is layed out well, and the funcunality is top notch(love the lightbox contact form).

I would work on the design aspect of it a little more, but then again it does follow trends of blogs nowadays. If its going to be a personal site though, you maybe want to show off a little more on the design, as your unrestricted by clients :P

Lose the script, add a CTA color

Posted on Sep 15, 2009 at 10:34 AM

As with other comments, I'd lose the script. It doesn't fit with the rest of your design, which I DO like.

Also consider adding a brighter Call-To-Action color for links and buttons. On your homepage, I'm drawn to the Twitter bird first. Is that where you want my eye going?

    Menu Fonts

Posted on Sep 19, 2009 at 4:58 AM

I'm not sure about the menu, it doesn't seem to work as what I think you expected it to do. Let's say it doesn't work as a tab. Try a different approach.

Also I really don't like the font of the buttons, use a nice standard font instead. ( You only use a "special" font in the navigation).

Differentiate project's titles and "Tools" a bit more in the portfolio page.

Is there an inner page for each project?

Oh, by the way if you want the user to read your blog, consider moving the sidebar to the right, so the reading is more pleasant.

I think your comment about the tab fonts may be the final straw, since many others posted that as well.

There is not an inner page for each portfolio piece, and that concept is one I have been toying on and off with for a while.

Took your advice on the blog / sidebar swap and gave the posts a greater portion of the page.

      Thanks for the feedback.

    Change the structure

Posted on Sep 14, 2009 at 5:16 PM

If your purpouse is make it like a blog, maybe you need to include more widgets to share the content and make easier to your prospect to be in contact with or you in contact with them (share it, twitt it, etc). Another usefull app is Google Analitycs to evaluate the effectiveness of your blog.

Thanks for the feedback, I've been lazy about getting the reddit / digg it / tweet it links up there but this will push me in the right direction :) And I do use Google Analytics!
