I like the typeface.
Very modern, it gives a strong feeling of togetherness and solidarity, the foundations of any religion. I think you've hit the nail on the head with that choice.
I would like see a little more variation, perhaps experiement with some icons/graphics or customise the font.
I would drop the crucifix in the background, this is a bit too obvious and overpowering for the typeface.
It's a good start
the typeface is great, works very well. It's a very simple logo, I don't feel churches really need an icon to go a long with the logo, i guess in all of these i feel like there is something missing.
I guess because it's just text. there is nothing being done to it. It's not really designed. It's just an arrangement of three words.
Maybe enhance the word "Redeemer" it's very stark can you make it a little more welcoming? what is the character of the church? it it lively? or are they hardcore? what is the purpose of the logo? and i'm not asking that in terms of "what will it be used for?" i'm asking that in as "what is it trying to do?" what is the concept of the logo? is it trying to engage the viewer? is it trying to bring a sense of familiarity? For example the coke logo when i view it, it makes me think of the smooth taste of drinking a coke a warm day. It's very flowing. I can almost feel the cool drink flowing down my throat. It inspires me to want to buy a coke product. The purpose of that logo is to get you to buy more coke.
Is your purpose to inspire the viewer to take action? or is it more passive? the brand the logo the everything has to be designed around that end purpose.
Have you seen this logo before? It's a very effective one. One of my favorite church logos. http://www.ectomachine.com/wp-content/themes/ectomachine/images/logos/logo_grace.jpg
thanks...your feedback is always appreciated.
You have a good point there about what the logo makes you feel like. Maybe I could design a simple image to go along with the text...like the logo you linked to.
I have had to do church logos and it's difficult, especially depending on how contemporary they will allow you to be with the design.
My personal opinion with the concept they suggested (the black & white concept) is that it resembles the Red Cross logo form too much, and initially does not easily associate to a religion without the associated text.
As someone else said, a visual connection to an identity or emotion really helps.
One thing to possibly try with this is a stylized dove. I could see that looking very nice with this.
haha....I tried that...the only thing I don't have the skill to draw a dove on the computer let alone on paper. I'd rather not use something like stock images...i want it to be original.
i don;t like the cross used int he last example. If you are going to use a cross maybe use the same alignment as the first example and use a slimmer cross to rest above "Pr" and wrap over the top of the "R". if you did that you may need to bring the R and h at the end into alignment.
The name of the Church is highly original "Redeemer". The typeface is rather classical, for me needs a bit more emotion to match the "redemption" promise of the church. Agree with other reviewers the cross is not working, I would look for something else if you feel you need an icon. However if you can find a more emotion font which mirrors redeemer more I would drop the icon. How about something more "glowing" or "illuminating"?
The new icon looks more like the medical red cross symbol than a church cross. Can you try making it taller, more traditional crosslike rather than square? But I do the like having something rather than just plain text. I'd also increase the size of Redeemer to fill the same visual width space and Presbyterian Church. I like the font and color of the Presbyterian Church in the second option.
i dropped the medical cross in favor of a new type...I posted the new one.
thanks for the helpful hints!...this is my first try at designing a logo...so I need all the help I can get.
