    Boxy-ness

Posted on Aug 11, 2009 at 12:59 AM

The boxness is too much for me, add more white space, and remove the combination of simplicity at the top, with tables at the bottom. Sponsors should be more of like a reel, make them in one line, but a list that scrolls up.

Second impression is to not attract attention to breaking news with red highlight. Nono!

Contact Us should be in footer.

Fix header, left align title, change font, separate nav, maybe even into sidebar.

Get a more web-friendly background image, this will load for AGES.

Otherwise, good start, but keep working at it!

Yes it does display a very boxy appearence and I think thats where my web design has been going lately, I will have to work to correct that.

Sorry about the red highlight, one of the coaches of the little league did that through the wysiwyg interface.

Yes the footer should contain the contact information.

    boxy

Looks like a table based design because everything is in white boxes. You are using CSS right? The background image is also just cut off. Maybe give it a fade out at the bottom.

Yep of course I'm using CSS, agreed about the background image though.

    Alighnment, typography, remove white

Posted on Aug 11, 2009 at 8:22 AM

Aside from the previous two comments, the bottom "sponsors" are not aligned to anything (make them left aligned with main content box).

Those white boxes make my eyes hurt - tone down to a warmer colour (light green, or transparency).

Bg pic is just cut off at bottom - can you make a soft gradient to green?

    title, white boxes

Posted on Aug 11, 2009 at 10:18 AM

make a cool typographic title! you can do something neat for the site header, i am sure of it. make it in a design program, and bring it in as an image, instead of just typing plain text and making it big... that green is very middle gray.. its hard to make black or white really contrast on a color like that for reading... i would just choose another background.. and yes, definitely tone down those whites! keep going with it, oh and you dont need those icons for the navigation bar (home, ..?? and scheduled events) the simple word there alone without an icon is more sophisticated. you'll get there, keep working on it

    Background

Posted on Aug 12, 2009 at 8:04 PM

The green space under the ball is not good. When I just opened the page, I thought there was someone slashed with a knife and sewed right away - not a pleasant impression. And I wonder how it looks on a wider monitor. Good luck, looking forward to updates.

    Add transparency

Posted on Aug 13, 2009 at 4:14 AM

i would do the boxes semi-transparent. Maybe white or a really dark green or black, i think that would look better with the backgroundimage.

    Try that
