I think seasonal background could be more inviting and innovating + need to rework on the elements used to depict Christmas.
Did a quick mock up...
wow, Ali, it is looking much different now. It's really looking great, some more serious efforts, and it will be stunning. Great man, awesome!!
yeah I think skechers have a nice design, however, they need to use each elements wisely... as you can see the background colors and seasonal elements they are using in their website doesn't appreciating to website at all.
Also, thanks for your comment and appreciating my idea :)
Well this is a definite improvement from the old site, just a refresh really... The design itself is not too bad and the usability based on the live site, is fairly easy to navigate.
There a re a few things that I think could be improved so will add notes.
So there are a few inconsistencies within the actual site design, but I think it's a massive improvement from the old, however this will never convince me to wear or let a lone buy their products...
Thanks again Andrew!

is good, I just don't like it, I get it it's christmassy, hopefully it will change to a less brash gradient
Is on the nav and the shopping bag box, but seems to have disappeared everywhere else,
so big? What else will go in here?
and although I like it I feel that the bevel that was used is a bit extreme, might look better with a softer less aggressive rollover effect
except here - consistency!
should be on the right
Not too mention the english is a bit off, "Someone took in Women's Best Girl - Posh" - Think about it what does that mean?

although the main nav, is extreme, it's better than this, this looks like a poor cousin... the unloved one
are like trhe never ending story, they just keep on going, and going and going, I would prefer to get to the bottom and then press next
doesn't really fit within the category that was chosen, of the type of show. Yes women do wear these FUGLY things, but I don't see the resemblance between runners and UGG boots

I noticed it before, but only now will I mention it... why is it soo intense, it looks stupid
is not consistent with the previous pages
could on been designed better, it would be interesting to see how it would look if there were say 10 items
is unnecessary
I like the design of the site, but I believe it suffers from the era that we first discovered gradients, and made them far more overstated in our designs that they needed to be.
All Pages: I'll go from top to bottom:
Header: The holiday graphics in the header made the "my account" button far too hard to see. it breaks the rhythm of the links above, and also overtakes the shopping cart area.
suggestion: place the snowflakes in more strategic locations.
Navigation: the grey bar gradient is far too overstated. the dropdown also overstates the gradient in sacrifice of the readability of the lower text.
suggestion: tone them down!
footer: The gradient, once again, messes with the readability of the text.
Front Page content: middle: The slider looks great. The men's and women's graphics as well. The attempt to make the front page current by the "check out what's happening right now" box seems to fall flat in my opinion. The "hot new styles" works well to keep things current. Again, the gradients for "check out hot new styles" make the type hard to read at the bottom.
suggestion: reconsider the strategy for the "check out what's happening right now" box.
Shoe selection: The "styles" , "price" , "size", etc. buttons also have overstated gradients. They don't mess with the readability, but take concentration away from the shoes due to their high contrast.
suggestion: restyle gradients.
I don't see anything that I haven't mentioned earlier in the other pages.
Great job, and Best of luck! -zeem
What Works (sort of...):
Overall - it's a vast improvement over the old homepage.
New Homepage - Fat menus are really cool. You can fast track selections to product from these menus (which is innovative). It would be interested to see if people have "motor issues" (specifically targeting and selecting) in these menus. It would be also interesting to see how these menus work on an iPad in Safari - The large banner works - however not all of the images are as persuasive. Some banners are just "so, so..." The uploaded attachment is perhaps the only persuasive banner, because it exploits the norm of "the people of people we like" (attractive, famous people like Brooke Burke establish a superficial heuristic in our sub-conscious that grabs our attention) If Brooke likes these shoes - so should I, I like Brooke, I want to be like Brooke. I think I'm interested in this 20% discount to buy these shoes. - The pattern for displaying shoes is slightly below the fold, and it invokes an interesting hover interaction to display choices. Again, there may be underlying motor control issues.
What does not work:
Homepage - Modules below the banner competes with the shoe selector carousel. Should be eliminated (seems like belt and suspenders). - Treatment at the top "Free Shipping" is so hidden (and may be invisible) because it is difficult to read with the graphical treatment behind. It may be one of the more persuasive elements (Free is leveraging the reciprocal and likability norm -- see the work of Robert Cialdini http://www.mindpowermarketing.com/the-science-of-robert-cialdinis-six-rules-of-influence/) - Footer should have the social networking icons as an attribute. Overall the footer content is hard to read (gray fonts and font size wrong.) - Not sure how successful the "shopping bag" metaphor is. Why make me think? - The Ads seem like an after thought... - The navigational elements within the carousel (example: Women, Men, Girls, Boys) are not visual evident. The white text on blue module frame make it nearly invisible to some users. There is not enough contrast for most of the action buttons/links (in general)
General comments:

Most people understand how a shopping cart works - why mess with that?
These items look like buttons - but upon clicking, all bring you to the same place. It fails to thread the content idea... Confusing...
if the target demographic has baby boomers - they may object to all of this 'automatic' movement. The designer needs to follow a basic Human factors principle "put the user in control'. Transitioning from one banner to another - but providing a control to advance is misleading and frustrating to some users.
Need more contrast
Should be in the footer
can be eliminated
Competes banner above and section below

Should be bolder
Could show BEST SELLING features (why other people love this shoe) - which exploits the persuasive norm social proof (see Robert Cialdini's work on Persuasion)
this may be invisible

An Update on the REVIEW:
Need to rearrange the Checkout process. Currently it asks 'what is your email address' is something i see impolite with your users/visitors/customers.
Need to be very straight. New? Please register. Simple.
I have attached the mockup (cfskechercheckout.jpg) created quickly, please have a look at it. It will be good to provide both registration and Login info on the same page.
Hope this additional feedback helps!
thanks again!

Andrew,
I just wanted to tell you that I loved browsing the site. Now that's a good UX design. Right from the top-navigation, to exploring the products, seeing the options available and taking a close-up, everything was an amazing experience!
Well, my thumbs are already up, though following are my quick feedback s:
Smart Navigation: Roll over an option, and you get to see everything there. It is what users need. Clarity, and ease of use.
Look & Feel: It's trendy, attractive, structured and colorful. All the ingredients for attracting almost all the age groups!
Zooming In: The zooming in feature when you hover the product image is really good and very much needed. It is such a product that needs to be touched, felt, before you buy. Online experience out here for such 'tangible' product like shoes has really been taken care. Although, you cannot make users feel the shoe in their hands, who knows, one day it might happen! :-)
Now, I found something not going the right way, was the roll over on the product image, the box with further options were appearing way below the product. I have attached the image also.
Maybe it is a issue of browser, I am using Firefox, just for your info.
Overall, damn cool site, which people would love to browse, and end up buying one! :-)
Hope this helps you
cheers
Prashant
One more point as a feedback for the site is that you can make the nav bar buttons in the color in which they fly out. This will give some more interesting look to overall great site!
thanks
Nice website, really easy to use and good looking. However I have some suggestions.

I'm not sure if this background is just for christmas, but for me it overloads the page.
they are using background for seasonal promotion and I do agree with you about the overload of colors... I have suggestion to use the promotion as done in the following link for eclipse: http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/
The logo alignment doesn't seen right for me. The "sketchers" text shoud be left aligned with the big S or by its side. A better solution would be to remove the "S" in my opinion.
I really think that the button to see My Account and my Order Status needs to stand out a bit more, the background is making it unreadable. Also the center alignment makes me think that there's something wrong here, it should be left aligned like the rest of the layout.
When i first opened the website the shopping bag took a really long time to load, not sure if it was my connection, but it was annoying.
Just a personal opinion, the menu graphic looks over dated, it could be more catchy and also more usable. Also the women and men sections are using the same color when on hover, when they should be diferent like the others sections.
If the menu was a bit more attractive, there wouldn't be necessary to add another link to the sections. This space could be used to promote some HOT offers and the Skechers VIP Club Subscription.
The updates keeps changing too fast, I can't even read it, also the information that it brings seens to be unrelevant for me. Could be used for twitter updates and promotions, or social media links. Would be more interesting.
This text, doesn't look like a hover button for me, but it should. When on hover this text i can see a lot of relevant informations, that I probably wouldn't be able to find if I was a new user.
I really think that they should appear more, and this subscription box could be improved with some more space. There could be an informative text telling me what kind of updates I would receive, that could make me want to subscribe.
There could be some links to the sections (men, women, etc), so I woudn't have to scroll back to the top to change my current section.
More text to read, but is it useful? I doubt some warning text like this could change a 13 years kid mind about subscribing or not. I don`t even see a motivation for this kid to subscribe.

I don`t know, this hard gradient style looks a bit over dated like I said before, also the light blue makes the text hard to read.

This menu is really good, its very easy to use and to understand although it took a really long time to load.
This section should be on the right, and it`s height could be reduced to the line height of the text.
This graphic is the same on the home page, that was a link to this section. So this image should show me where I am right now, moving it to the left and making it diferent would make a lot of sense for me.
I've never been to the original sketchers.com website. But judging from the screenshot, they desperately needed a face lift.
The new version of the site is a breath of fresh air. Nice crisp 2.0 style layout but with a dash of seasonal flavor for the background. Quick load time and nice cross-browser compatibility. Always a plus.
INDEX PAGE: Bright, attention grabbing splash image with well thought out images. Let's face it, having a Kardashian model isn't going to hurt. The "What's Happening Now" feed is intriguing and the constantly updating images gives the whole site a more dynamic feel.
SUB PAGES: The Sub pages are laid out well. Clearly defined columns separate the information and break it down into tidy little chunks for the user to digest.
My only problem is that it feels a bit bland. I think they could have some a little more to define the areas - Background colors or images might have helped alleviate the glass of milk feel. Perhaps they felt it might have made the sub pages feel a little too busy.
NAVIGATION: The main menu bar is a stark improvement over the sidebar navigation on the original site. I like the idea of color coding the different drop down menus but the color difference between the Women and Men tabs could have been a little wider.
MISC: The Shopping cart "bag" in the header works very well. Neat touch having the item being added "fly" into the bag. Points for originality there. Also, the Search Bar has a simple question that most sites would do well to emulate "What are you looking for?" Seems a touch more personal. I like it.
Overall its a great improvement. They are not necessarily breaking new design ground for the most part but they have a visually appealing website with simple, easy to use navigation and tools. I might suggest a few color scheme changes to make some of the text pop more but that can be fixed with a few tweaks to the CSS.
Nice work.
I have similar comments to Michael Rawlins. The new site is much better and more professional looking that teh old site.

Hard to read this text because of poor contrast with the background. Needs to be black if the Xmas theme background picture is to be used.
Users understand this now so why change? Perhaps this is supposed to be a more Xmas themed bag? It may be boring but stick to what users know.
Not sure even if text is needed here although it does imply that you will search teh catalogue rather than the whole site. If this text is supposed to be help it needs to be darker to improve the contast and increase readability.
These look as if you can click them which may confuse users when nothing happens. Majes a site look broken. Would just make text.
This is too big and detracts people from the real purpose of site - find shoes to buy.
These two mini-banners are a waste fo space and do nothing that the navigation bar does not.
I think that a) this is a waste and b) I don't understand what this does. Do the links go to a Blog, or the list of hot sellers?
This could be a carousel to increase the number of items covered. However get rid of the mini-banners and make the main banner smaller and even more could be displayed at once.
These distract from the main purpose which is to buy shoes. Also they seem to compeltely unreleated to anything else on the site. Either get rid, make smaller, or put in a side bar.
Detracts from the main content.

For enhanced readability the text needs a higher contrast with the background. This fat drop down men is a main navigation tool for the user yet it is hard to read.
Why not give the fat menu checkboxes so the user can make several choices at once? At the moment it seems that the user is restricted to one search criteria to click only.

So many shopping sites just use a thumbnail or small image.
As a user I am not sure if this list is showing me what is theoretically in teh catalogue or what is actually in stock. Nothing annoys me more than finding out that more choice is not available until checkout or worse an email. I need some text here which says "Currently available sizes". Above "Currently avilable colours".
I these brochure pdf slides? Why not just let me download a brochure on the shoe?
My usual bugbear - PLEASE its the first rule of text readability, high contrast text with the background. This is light grey text on a medium-light grey background.
more contrats please.

Standard chekout design, works well.
I like having the absket at login. I can see what is in my order and that all has carried forward or that I have not clicked a quanity of 10 by msitake. On a big order I may have to scroll below the fold but that is not as big a problem as it used to be.
I dont know... personaly I am missing in there some more contrast, the site is boring for me and way too much complicated... maybe it needs more of hierarchy-ing... thats too much information for me personaly, first seconds (those the most importat) i was feeling lost but after some time Im getting into it... Anyway I am only amateur designer and by this post Im loosing my review virginity, but I hope my comment will help /somehow/ ;)

your new design is totally a huge step forward for skechers s website but there are still few details to drill out
I am very disappointed with the poor and outdated design. This company is big enough to have a great web presence. The navigation bar is really my main complain, it is very old fashion with the gradients and the bevel buttons. As well as the simple interface lacking any connection between each different div or box.
The overall layout isn't terrible but that's because it follows the same standard of any other apparel website.
The main image could be a little less forbidding. Wishing for eyeballs somewhere. Maybe coordinate better with the feel of their TV commercials, which seem to be more about results (e.g. nice butt). Coupon is good.
Nice mock-up... now backdrop looking nice :)
