    Just love it

    Hi Miranda,

    excellent design!

A wonderful combination of a certain retro touch with very modern simplicity. I think this is one of the rare occasions where a design with such a variety of colors radiates such a calmness and simplicity. I think the typography of the second draft (rockwell.png) is a little better since it is not as heavy and dominant.

    Keep up the good work!

Hi Elias, Thank you for your review. I found it to be very deep, reflective and helpful. I have a new font choice in the image line-up and would love to know your favorite of the three.

Actually I have to say I still like the last (rcwell.png) the best. The serifs emphasize the retro aspect. It is a wonderful composition of three aspects:

      • the post-modern, simple-effective background

      • the test screen from times where there were three channels - and not 24/7

      • the newspaper resembling font creating a link to the first days of television.

So on this level you cover the whole history of mass-TV from 1950 (serif font) up until today (background).

    ... so simple so perfect.

Nothing to comment, excellent piece of work. I like the first one with the bolder font.

Is this going to be a flyer ?

hi! i have added another font, please tell me which you like the best. i'm guessing the logo will be marketed in many different ways. possibly flyers, posters, & digital marketing. would love to hear your choice with the new font added. thanks for the review :)

first font, the bold one works for me, the other are to slim and lose focus in contrast with the color bar screen logo

comcsrif.png is the boldest, and appears in the middle.. gothm.png appears first now and rcwell.png appears last (i'm guessing you don't like this one - its the slimmest) so do you like gothm.png or comcsrif.png better? and why? thanks!

sorry for the confusion, I like gothm.png because the text is bold or at list is stronger and it's sans and it's more related to computer and tv letters in my opinion, I mean serif fonts are classic and tv it's more like new stuff, technology ...

    Colours

Posted on Nov 19, 2010 at 4:07 AM

    Nice idea Miranda, huge potential.

But not quite pulled off for me.

First of all, it looks very odd that one of the squares is the same colour as the background.

Additionally, I think more attention needs to be paid to the colours. Whilst you are absolutely right to use many different colours here, they should still be connected. Usually I ensure colours have the same saturation and brightness levels.

I would also question the order in which the colours appear.

The large block of black also seems a little odd.

So, great idea, and nearly there, but some attention needs to be paid to the colours to help ensure they fit together well. Also, don't use the background colour as one of your colours.

Good luck, I hope this was useful to you!

the color block is exactly unchanged from a traditional color testing "off the air signal" i don't think adjusting it would be wise. the white block bothered me too for awhile. but i really want it to stay pure and recognizable, and I think leaving the true colors as they have always appeared is the best idea.

I agree with Miranda. I think keeping the colors true will emphasise the effect, even though its not so common anymore, I still think most people remember it well.

It could almost do with the logo text being in different colours similar to the test card to work, or placed on top of the test card with an alternative colour for each letter. I can see where you're coming from with the whole screen week (and 7 colours! - as this on purpose?) maybe you could turn it into a mock calendar to portray the 'week' element to the concept!

thats funny you should say that about the mock calendar because i do have a sketch of a weekly planner with this color bar screen markered on it! what are you talking about "test card" ? the colors used in the logo.. are a typical screen seen on disconnected or technical difficulties TV screen. do you not get the reference? here is a link to what the logo is about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Je7SPYOw9Vk its a video, one second of it should help you understand what it is im talking about. im worried, if people dont get the reference.. this is not a good logo. what is the test card you're talking about?

I do get the reference :) - in the UK we refer to it as the 'test card' as television stations use them as a colour reference point for any alterations in brightness and contrast. More commonly it looks like this: http://newsliteimgs.s3.amazonaws.com/090106_testcard.jpg, I remember Big Brother using the test card as a basis for their infamous eye logo a couple of years ago: http://images.mirror.co.uk/upl/m3/may2008/4/9/303F66B6-C34F-3C12-9CC939FF89F79080.jpg

Honestly, the first logo you have is perfect. The typography is great and the image itself works great as whole.

Don't make any changes, it's perfect!

    Go with Gotham

Posted on Nov 26, 2010 at 4:27 PM

I really like this design -- simple but gets attention.

Since you seem to be trying to pick a font choice, I would suggest that you go with the Gotham design; the sans-serif is more in keeping with the simplicity of the rest of the design.

That being said, your clients emphasize "Fun" in their request for the logo; perhaps further imagery could be useful here as a counterpoint to the bars, since all by itself this design, clean and sharp as it is, does not really say "fun" to me.

All in all, though, it's definitely a strong memorable image so I'd say you succeeded on that score. Best of luck in your revisions!

    Great work !

Posted on Jan 24, 2012 at 7:54 AM

I really like the concept. regarding the fonts I can't really decide between #1 and #3, but I think #1 fits the design better, because of the hard corners.
