I defo prefer the light layout from the 2. I must say i like the design and cant really fault it, except the menu, Just text links are very basic now-a-days.

Cant really tell as there isnt a live preview for the new design but even hover links will work better.

Maybe make the menu more button like/styled and more bold so they are way more noticable. Even use a better and larger font.

    black one if good

Posted on Nov 17, 2010 at 1:36 AM

I really like the black one to the lighter one.

May be you can try and put the navigation menu to the right side of header just below the search. This way you can get rid of the emptyness on the right side of your design.

You can also try and make the section below latest news a little bit different. May be left alignment to the text. Use less text and have a read more link.

You haven't used the real contents so can't tell you about the footer section.

The template is good. But you can tweak it somewhere. Loved the header.

    Good luck.

    More attention to typography

Posted on Nov 12, 2010 at 12:15 AM

In general, this design is probably competent for the client and target market. That is to say, safe, bland, dull, unexciting, boring and unimaginative. And those are all good things, provided there was no expectation of excitement or originality.

There is no attempt to "connect" with the target market, to talk to them in language that resonates. Ask yourself, why would anyone choose this company over a competitor? What makes NOVA special? If this for an actual company, there is a great deal of basic marketing thinking lacking here. However as a generic, no surprises, see-it-all-before template, it's marginally adequate.

Hint: it might help reviewers if you indicated what you intend the site to achieve.

Design-wise, I suggest a more sympathetic type treatment, by replacing the sub-heads and body copy with something less generic. Make the columns ragged right, not justified.

The black version is my preference.

    Hope this helps.

    Structure

Header part is OK just some big the font size of banner text.

Navigation don,t eye catching, make it more effective

Don,t separate the body section like a column. Represent it another style.

Maintain proper align & gaping of footer text.

    Dark layout is best

Posted on Nov 12, 2010 at 10:21 AM

The light layout really didn't do anything for me, but the dark concept looks good, but maybe even a bit too dark. It's hard to see the text, but could just be due to the screenshot. That's my only complaint besides there is no real content on the page, so I'm not sure what you offer.. but that's not a design element.
