First I would change spacing a bit. Spacing inside those six boxes is a little bit too big. You may want to try something like 20 pixels.

Then you should add more style to the navigation. Add depth to dividers by creating one dark line and one light line, next to each other (please see the attached image).

Also, I would add more spacing between logo and navigation. It feels quite 'tight' right now ;) Search box needs some fixing too, now the go button isn't equal height to the actual input box.

Events site is pretty good. Maybe you should focus on the interface as it can be still improved.
