    I'm not sure...

Posted on Oct 27, 2010 at 3:55 PM

I quite like it, but I think the colors are too brash and the font isn't engaging enough for me.

It also looks very familiar... I think you can take this idea and expand upon it, it's certainly not finished.

I am also not that keen on all CAPS...

I have attached a version that I did a quick mock up of, hope you don't mind :P

Overall I think it has a lot of potential, but just as nerds are known to be fairly shy, you need to tone down the extreme-ness of the logo!

    Good luck!

I agree with Aaran's assessment and I like his mock up. It has a much better use of typography and has more personality. Take Aaran's lead and keep it going.

Vitor, I was going to say something similar to Aaron.

Its a great design, yet it can be more. I'll think on this a little more and if I think of something cool I'll let you know. But in the mean time, here are some ideas to consider what it means to be a nerd, and hopefully some brainstorming that will be helpful:

    • give the glasses eyebrows, or expression
    • work with fonts for some variations
    • try the illustration as "me" somehow (yes, I know the tie works well for the i, but what if the text "me" had personification? What if "me" was wearing glasses?)
    • perhaps try an illustration between "nerdify" & "me" (not sure it would work.. but I guess what I am saying I would like to see some variations to cover all possibilities
    • pocket protectors are good too; ink stains, corrections
    • black and red is always a winner for style and simplicity; perhaps play with outlines & strokes to see what you come up with; but remember: nerds have absolutely NO sense of style :)
    • not sure how to illustrate it, but glasses are always sliding down noses, and the epitome of a nerd entering his or her zone and getting ready to lay it down, is a nerd sliding their glasses back up into position.
    • can you bring the blog aspect into it? perhaps comment bubbles, clouds, code texture

Just some more concept ideas for you, overall its looking awesome, and can't wait to see some revisions!

I love the nerd guy graphic. The tie is a great touch. The font is a bit overbaring, taking away from the graphic. Maybe using a font that is a little lighter would be better.

Overall it's a great concept. Nice job :)

    more about "me"

Posted on Oct 28, 2010 at 2:35 PM

Vitor, it's a pretty cool logo and you've gotten some decent feedback already. I like the all caps, personally, so that works for me, although you have a range of opinions.

I think for use as a blog header it's fine, I can see it running across the front of a business card as well. I'm not sure how versatile it will be elsewhere and that limits it's branding capability.

In terms of graphic design, I would explore adding a touch of color to the face (maybe the bridge between the glasses with a spot of red?) and I would also explore adding a bit of personality to "ME" -- maybe offset it slightly, or kern it tighter, or just play with it a bit.

Otherwise, great effort. Love to see the final.

Somewhat drab, but it's a nerd so what would you expect.

I think it's cool ... although the whole glasses/tie and black/red/white is not the most original when it comes to nerd themes...

    the color of ME

Posted on Nov 01, 2010 at 8:35 AM

I like what other ppl have done with the fonts, it looks much more designer-y in their renditions. That said, I could see it if you were intentionally going for the very bland bland-ness of ...what is that, Helvetiva Black?... as a contrast to the nerd visual, or as a statement on the "squareness" of such a nerd.

AND I like the words on one line and run together like that; it puts the tie-and-glasses illustration nicely centered on the logo.

It's your red. It's a very, very warm color, and you've used a hot shade of it... almost too plain, too common, and definitely too forward. It screams.

You need to decide whether you want the "ME" to advance or recede, and how much, and choose a color accordingly. How about a nice #991122?

    Subtleties

Posted on Nov 05, 2010 at 6:57 PM

Nice logo! There's some good points already in the reviews, at least from a quick view, so I'll try to not repeat them or at least be brief.

The tie would look great in red. Now the 'me' attracts just a very little bit too much attention.

Also the glasses would look nice with a kind of reflection in it I think. You know, diagonal line through the center, one half black one half white. Or something like that.

Lastly I would look into a more original font. Perhaps a slab-serif, as some examples in the reviews proposed, but a nice sans-serif might just do it as well. I would space the letters a little bit closer together (with exception to the ...dif... part).

Overall, I like it. Just some finishing touches here and there and it's done.

    font w/ nerd guy

Posted on Oct 27, 2010 at 4:19 PM

Things that work well: Great Concept

Things you might want to consider revisiting:

    1. Font used - I would try playing around with funner fonts that have more curvy features. This would help to tie more smoothly into the i (nerd guy)
    2. the nerd guy - the head is a little over powering visually. It stands out more do to the boxyness of the font surrounding it.
    3. All caps - the i (nerd guy) is lower case, this through me off a little when I first read it.
    4. Colors - play around with different ones, I'm thinking blue or grey might look nice, red doesn't bother me that much but might be worth checking it out in blue.

When I first saw this I read it as NERD FYME. Not NERDiFYME. I do love this concept, it really works well with the target audience.

You're head in the direction of greatness on this one, I look forward to seeing any next revisions you have.

    I hope this review helped!

    font

Posted on Oct 27, 2010 at 4:50 PM

I agree with the first two reviews about the font. Remember your audience ages 15 -30, a young crowd. You need something a little less stuffy and more playful. Nerds are only stuffy on the exterior, many of them really like fun things but just don't know how to go about getting into them. So a more fun style will catch their attention.

Whatever you do, do not discard the tie and the face. They are the signature of the logo.

I love the concept for the blog. You are off to a great start!

    Font to lower-case

Posted on Oct 27, 2010 at 6:10 PM

I also like lower-case for the text, preferably thin characters, such as those in this image with a slight serif for better distinction. I tried to add some entertaining features to the face. Fun concept. :-)

I think the purpose is very clear, mostly because of the name of the brand. As for the design, I like it. The glasses could be thicker to further strengthen the nerd aspect.

As for the tie, I am not sure how that is strongly related to a nerd. In fact, most people wearing a tie are those in power, not nerds ;)

I would not call this design exceptionally beautiful or clever, but at least it is clear, which is most important for a logo.

    Symbol interrupting the logo flow

Posted on Mar 25, 2011 at 4:45 PM

I love the way NERD look.

At first i thought the logo would be something like NERD.ME

When I imagine what the word nerd would look like in terms of a logotype I would had imagined this one! Good job with type.

What is distracting is the symbol. I dont know if you want to use the letter I as a tie. Perhaps the head with the glasses can be the symbol and the text can go below. I just feel the natural flow was interrupted when I saw the symbol. I understand you want to emphasis the meaning, but in this example I do not think it is needed. Your type is great enough.

Also I think the color of red you chose is very aggressive and overpowering! You have a great start for this logo, and it is definitely original! Just need a bit of tweaking.

I look forward to seeing the final version!
