    Header looks too busy

Posted on Oct 25, 2010 at 7:57 PM

    Hi Sharmista

It's a nice clean design. But I think there's too many elements in the header. When I first saw the layout, it struck me as being too busy.

I would remove any unnecessary elements, like the sofa with the pink cushions and possibly the overlaid box pattern. The main interior image looks great and can stand on it's own. This image already contains a lot of box like shapes, with the kitchen drawers etc, and I think the overlaid box pattern just creates confusion and looks like an unnecessary element.

I would also lighten the "light-gray" tone, beneath the main text area, until it's barely perceptible. I think it's a little bit too dark at the moment.

I'm not too keen on the dark red panel on the left hand side. That doesn't seem to fit well with the rest of the design. It almost looks like an element from another website. I think the brightly colored icons in this panel, also look out of place.

Also personally I don't like those stock images of bright young professionals, with laptops. They make me want to cringe. Unless it's a real person at the company and you can convey that in some way, it just comes across an overused Cliché.

Finally I would add some white-space and check your margins. The space between the red box and the main body text is much larger than the space between the "Our Portfolio" and "Our Services" boxes. Also the space between the main content area and the footer seems too tight.

With the dual nav in the footer, I would add all the main menu links and only have the vertical dividers between menu items, not at the start and end. This way it's more consistent with the format of the main menu

Little more rounded corners and menu button more clear and visible.

Hi! Overall design is good n clean. I like your approach. Header and sofa concept is cool. Only suggestion is: choose light colors box instead of maroon left box. Good wishes.

    Simplify

You say you want modern, simple, clean. I get the modern, but there's not too much simple or clean... This page is too cluttered, which is not good for any website let alone one for a design firm going for modern, simple, clean!

Are you commercial interiors? The thumbnails in the portfolio appear to be commercial, but the image at the top is quite ambiguous. It could be an employee lounge, or it could be somebody's apartment. Of course 'real' text will help clarify, but it's something to note. Especially for that prominent top image. Somebody could leave the site immediately based on what's conveyed there.

Why do you have the image of the grey sofa at the top? IMHO it doesn't add a thing. I also don't like the woman at the laptop at all. If you're going to have online chat, how about a more interesting graphic? Otherwise just give the contact info in a simple, clean, modern (!) typeface, maybe a contrasting color background.

Colors, I don't like that shade of burgundy/merlot, it's too drab and obscure. I think the gray needs something more interesting for contrast.

You have a lot of space reserved for text. esp. for a design firm. The 'who we are' on the left is good, but then what are you planning on communicating in the copy block below the 'welcome...'? I would have much less text there and do something more interesting with the portfolio - for starters move it up.

'Our Services' could be interesting too, and I hope you use some bright color as you roll over the items. And do you need the 'more detail' button? Either of them? In the services box, I assume each line item is a link, so why have yet another button.

Regarding navigation, this is not about design but content - you have "About Us" - "Who We Are" - and "Our Profile" ??? That's either redundancy or bad labels.

If I were a prospective client, here's what I want to know as painlessly as possible and where I would need navigation / information help: - What you do to make sure you can do what I need; - Who you are, to ensure you're legit and qualified; - Examples of work to see if there's a design fit; - A sense of how to work with you, the process; - How to contact you to set up that first meeting!

    Hope you found this helpful!

    Regards, Cate

    Less Text

Posted on Oct 28, 2010 at 5:01 PM

I like the main header image and the logo. Yet there seems to be way too much text on this home page. There should be more pictures and some basic text to get the viewer to want to go deeper into the site.

In a nutshell, I think that there should be only one area that describes what you do instead of three (who we are, welcome, and our services). That one area plus a larger portfolio area and a very visible contact area are mainly what you should need for your home page.

    Hope this helped!

    Simplify & Eye Catching

Posted on Oct 29, 2010 at 5:32 AM

    Hi, Sharmista

The Design doesn't look bad, but it needs some improvements I will add some notes to highlight the design

    1. At first you change the sofa & give some other light color images.

    2. Navigation section need some improvement, navigation font don,t match with your design also "welcome" font need some changes.

    3. Most disadvantage of your design "who we are" section background color , use some light color gray/white color that look like simple & maintain proper text alignment of this section.

    4. Use smooth & eye catching gradient color of more detail button.

      1. At the footer section don,t use separator at the start & end, also little bit short copyright text font size.
