More diversity on your portfolio page

Posted on Oct 13, 2010 at 7:24 PM

Hey Jj, great work man. I love the tone of your design. The site does a really nice job of being a very well polished design, while still being quiet enough to allow your actual work to be the main focus.

Huge fan of all the colors, textures and graphical elements on your site. Only a couple suggestions...

    • Consider how you could diversify your portfolio experience. While the slider is perfect for the home page, visitors might want to see more about a particular project, but as is now you don't even have details about any of the projects, just slider images.
    • Your about page has some odd spacing going on as viewed on Chrome on a Mac (http://cl.ly/2oDN); but really the whole format of that page is pretty sweet. You've done a great job on it. But did you cross browser test?
    • Love your blog design. Overall it just really feels like a rich user interface. Nice work!!

    Truly Beautiful...

Wow, is about all I can say, I love this!

So clean and lite, yet so balanced great work...

Only thing I can get picky about is the alignment of the Nav, and the logo line it up to the edge of your portfolio box...

Question: How did you get onto Dribble?

    Nice one!

Don't let anything blend *too* much into background

Posted on Oct 13, 2010 at 4:39 PM

This is a really great design; nice and clean, with a striking, eye-catching color scheme. One suggestion I would make would be to turn up some of the things in the bottom nav which are nearly the same color as the background; on my screen at least it's a little hard to tell them from the background at all.

The use of the handwritten font is a nice touch; however, it seems to show up rather sporadically rather than as an aspect of the design as a whole; it might be worth trying to see if you can make it a more definite thread running through the whole thing.

You also have a couple of points in your second page where you could probably do with a little proofreading (specifically "My works has won or been featured") -- I assume this would have been caught before launch but I thought I should mention it. :-)

This is all really nitpicky, though; the design is great! Really good work...best of luck in future revisions. :)

    Nice job

I saw your old site on Smashing Mag. Nice transition. Not too much of a departure of the color scheme but definitely simplified and made a change for the better. I can see why you work for HP now. Great job. I do enjoy the simplicity. I usually like complex eye-candy but this is great stuff.

Do you do tutorials? You have an awesome style and attention to detail.

Nice subtle design. I like the vertical page in the about section. Maybe one of those vertical page sliders might work too. Although it is interesting to scroll and see what's next.

    I agree with Joel.
On you portfolio slider. More info on a specific project would be great too. Maybe link to an individual page with the project specifics on it. I wanted to learn a bit more about the projects. It looks good in the slider, but wanted to click to see more about what the project entailed, the client, maybe some concept art of it to show process, etc.

    Good stuff.

*Definitely engaging and interesting layout, very clear navigation and overall very pleasant design. I would just explore more font options, but as it is is perfectly fine.

    Hi Jj -

I love your work, and this concept is really nice. So clean! I especially like your Japanese Garden icons.

I'm a big fan, you do awesome work! Only suggestion I can see (which is kinda nick picky) would be to remove <strong> tags from html and put in your CSS instead.

    spacing

Posted on Oct 17, 2010 at 12:28 PM

Love this design and I can only really find one thing that I think could be changed. The spacing between the bottom of the bullet navigation and the top of the image could be increased a little, this would also increase the spacing between the text and the image on the left hand side of this slider too

Apart from that, love the simplicity of it all :)
