Hey Bryant, I really like the colors you chose here, they work really well, here are some things i like
Here are some things i feel can be changed.
Design 4 - clean, modern, well executed
Purpose 3 - standard, it is a template after all
originality 2 - again - template
engagment 2 - It really looks like another tumblr theme to me, its kind of boring, and in my opinion actually looks like one of those sites that posts dumb comments on articles on PSDtuts to leach.
not saying you do anything like that. but its not original enough to look like an actual website.
I dont know what you can do about that, it might just be the layout you chose.
Overall 3/5 good job :D
I'm not a great fan of this.
For me, it looks too much like you've followed some tutorials or taken direct cues from existing work, rather than trying to be original.
The background is a bit urgh for me, it looks like a kitchen work surface, I have to say I'm not a big fan of it, and it generally brings the whole design down and makes it look too drab.
Because of the background, the transparency also doesn't work here because everything that isn't highlighted just seems to have sunk into the background.
The colours don't help either, they equally suffer from the same drab feel.
Generally speaking, for me, if you are attempting a clean, uncluttered look then the background has to go and you have to stick with plain or off-white, otherwise you're undermining the whole concept of clean design, and you're undermining your whole concept.
If you don't want a minimalist design, then you need to be more adventurous, more bold, and demonstrate a more intuitive and interesting use of colour & texture.
Good luck!
This certainly has the potential to be a great design. There are, however, a few things that I would point out.
I'm not sure that the grungy texture works with the otherwise clean layout. Have you tried a light grey background with some subtle noise?
The shadows on each panel is far too dark. Try a more subtle approach.
The layout on each panel isn't great either. I think that we are more accustomed to the post name and date being on top, and voting icons on the bottom. This would just improve the usability a bit.
The use of Arial for your "Hello! I'm Bryant......" section seems a little dull. I think you could get away with something a little more outlandish, or even just Helvetica or Gotham.
The font for the logo isn't perfect either, and the kerning isn't great. Maybe invest in a premium script font for this one.
Other than those minor issues, it's looking nice and clean :)
Hey Bryant,
So you've got all the makings of a pretty sweet design here, but it needs some polishing. I can see several things that just need to have a little bit of TLC. I'll point them out as notes...

You need some space between the logo and the borders of the surrounding background. The ascenders and decenders of the typeface are nearly touching the borders. Also you could consider changing this font t something a little more polished, such as Bello or Candy Script - both available at MyFonts.com.
Consider making the "Hello!" bold, and leaving the rest of this statement as normal, or as italics.
the left margin here doesn't feel like it matches the bottom margin of these sidebar items. When in doubt, always make your side margin (or padding) a little larger than your top/bottom margins (or padding)
Nice effect though. Are you going to use -webkit-transitions to animate the opacity change?
Your drop shadow effect, while nicely formed, is way too heavy. It looks like you have it set to 100%. Try 40%.
You need a little more bottom margin between these icons and the image itself. They look too close to the images. They could also be a little smaller, I think.
Again, nice work with the textures.
What are your thoughts on the twitter updates on the right-hand side? I'm debating whether they flow with the theme or not.
OH - good question. Actually I had meant to address those. Honestly yeah, I think they need help too. I'd love to see their background match more of either the search field input background, or the tags below. Just do something to bring some consistency into their design with the rest of the page.
I've added notations, overall very clean, very good. My biggest concern throughout was consistency and readability. Hope those notes help & good luck :)

The "Postup" seems pushed to the top too much, but I think its because of all the negative space under the descender on the lower case p. Suggest some top padding or slight position adjustment in regards to the horizontal rule. Would also consider using PostUps logo here, instead of the styled version.
These are really hard to read; increase the contrast just a bit.
Suggest a change in button color for a rollover state, with text this small the underline seems to just to obscure the readabiltiy
I like the all caps on the right, but you may want to consider bringing something from the right over to the left; suggest perhaps the all caps here on these section headers; using them on POST 9 POST 8 etc. since they are in affect, sample headers.
suggest toning these down a bit, they seem like too much
this looks cool, but for usability purposes you may want to consider a white input box with prompt text
Not too familiar with how the updates work, but the change in font from left to right side of the page (sans serif to serif) is giving a bit of disconnect
Hey Bryant,
At first look, without reading what's the concept for, I though is a css website gallery...
If this is for an online portfolio, well I think you should make something to stand out more, like: - make the thumbs bigger, - remove that sidebar and put in on the footer, so you gain more space
The Design look very good, I like the styles and the shadows, maybe the background texture is to prominent, give a grunge effect to my eyes, try it more fade out!
**That's all I can say! The Design is cool, but maybe the way you arrange the content it's giving me a css gallery website lookalike!
Good Luck!**

I really like the top header here, so high level detail here! Really nice work!
Do you think you can make this much more smaller in height? it's a line and you can give more space to the buttons and logo, they look crowded up there!
I really like the thumb effect, but if you make the border pure white that will give a nice effect, now is to grunge!
Nice design here, very nice!
I really don't like this sidebar, it's a portfolio after all and you have to showcase your work...you can put this info in the footer!
I like the Big Header, it's straight to the subject!
This design has a lot of potential, but currently the spacing and alignment are off, and there are a lot of things that are unclear.
For me the best thing you could do is go through every element on the page and ask Why? Why is it there? How does it benefit the site? Will your target audience be interested in it? Don't do things because you can, but because they will benefit your users.

It's not immediately clear what these icons mean for the user. You are using this site to sell yourself to future clients so keep things as simple as possible and focus on what the user wants
the font is too small, and looks strange after all the sans serif everywhere else. Increase padding, and maybe add some rounded corners to blend in with the res tof the design.
The shadows are way too harsh. In real life shadows are very rarely completely black. Take this shadow and dial the opacity down too 10% or less and it will look a lot nicer. Design is all about subtlety and these are anything but
Not sure these will be readable on all screens. It may look nice on your computer but you can't control everyones screen. I would increase the contrast.
what are these for? Add a title, and increase the contrast so they can be seen
I'd change the title to search - always simplify if you can. Global sounds like you will be searching the world
I assume this is stats, in which case - is it relevant to the user? Do they care how many page views your site is getting? Will they be more likely to purchase a site from you if they know how many hits a day you get? Maybe it will hurt you if you don't get much traffic. Portfolio sites don't need to get loads of traffic to be successful, so would be worth removing IMO
The logo is squashed up against the text and there's not much room to breath lower down. I would look at spreading things out more. White space is your friend.
What font are you using? Might be worth looking at Typekit or the google font directory to use something a bit more interesting for the headings on the site.
Why is there a time on here? It's a portfolio so I don't care when stuff was uploaded. In fact I don't need the post name either - I just want to see the cool stuff you've built.
Hey Bryant,
I like the CONCEPT, but I really think you should use other colors here, something that make the layout stand out. It looks too serious.
You could also work a little more on the buttons make them impossible to not click!
Add some space to the header it needs to breath hehe.
The shadow behind the squares is too hard in my opinion.
That`s it, i see potencial :)
Regards!
I like the background and header!
Nice layout, think that the colours could doeith a little work though. Try kuler to get a strong colour scheme. Try too incresae the contrast to improve readablity.
Looks a little like the concept feedback layout :p
Nice font too.
I like this!
I would suggest a little more contrast as everything is fairly monotone.
The drop shadows don’t seem a litlte harsh for me — possibly just brining the opacity down.
This website design seems good to me. Not very original or engaging, but quite effective and clean in my opinion.
There are some details that needs to be fixed, and the worst part for sure is the sidebar. I believe that you can, and must, do better there: the fonts, the alignment and the overall look of the rightmost part of the page doesn't look good for me.
Love the icons, the header and some other details. The colors are right and neutral, good for sure to host different heterogeneous works and thumbs... but a bit pale and a boring after some minutes of looking, so not so much engaging in the end I fear.
Anyway... a good work overall. Just need to fix some details (mainly the sidebar).

The shadow here seems to be too strong. You can try softening it a bit, especially on the sides, where the photo/image should look like it's lifting from the main plane.
I really don't like the font used in this updates boxes
Something in the design of this sidebar doesn't fully convince me. I see that the user image thumb is aligned with the title, but with the strong white text box below it seems like out of alignment, and it doesn't look good in my opinion.
love these tiny icons below, and the menu buttons above!
These buttons could be better in my opinion. There is something in the icons, the text or the distance between them that doesn't look good
Huzzah Luke, great feedback!
Bryant Luke has pointed out some interesting things here, can you believe he is so young?
I like it as a theme, but personally I prefer original work, so I would suggest you do more research and design your own!
