    Don't overcrowd it

Posted on Oct 10, 2010 at 5:31 PM

first of all the purpose is clear, but the design is not all too good,

It is design makes it look overcrowded, that is when a visitor comes to the site, he will be it overcrowded and difficult to find what he or she is looking for, and can be easily discourage and move away

we are in the world, where we are always on the move and are always looking for the immediate answer to our problem, but the design of the site makes it very difficult for any body looking for score of any match

I suggest you reduce it to competition and that hierarchy like and also displaying the scores of recent matches like lets say the result from the previous day and the present day

    Header area

Posted on Oct 11, 2010 at 2:25 PM

What I like about the layout.

    • you seem to have managed to get a lot of content within the first page.
    • organization of content

Somethings to consider as you look at this UI.

    • the list info in the sidebars could be combined into one sidebar area allowing the main content to be the focus
    • the 2010 Tournaments could be laid out more organized, it's not consistant in when the champion's flag it shown, creating a unbalanced effect.
    • Header graphics could really use some work, try searching on some stock photo sites to help here.
    • the navigation feels like part of the header, I think a new image above it will really help the nav become more user friendly.
    • Boxes Boxes every where, try to break out of the mold by creating two column layouts with in the main column if possible.

    Hope this helps!

review fundamental web site design concepts

Posted on Oct 12, 2010 at 7:05 AM

    Hi Phil

The fact that a site is rich in content doesn't mean you have to present ALL the content at the same time. Have a look on the web for Information Architecture. This area specifically looks at how to organise content.

    • This is a site where the use of a breadcrumb navigation trail will come in handy

    • look up primary and secondary navigation. You need to come up with a better way for visitors to make choices.

    • look up usability - this gives some insights on how to think from a visitors point of view when building a site

your site is made from your point of view. that doesn't work on the web. look up user-centered design

    best regards

    Draft

wow...this is a lot of green and not very eye appealing. with all the white and green, it kind of makes your eyes fall asleep..and then theirs a lot of text that doesn't direct the readers attention on where to go or where to look first.

I'd recommend researching sites like www.patterntap.com and www.emberapp.com to get inspiration and see what users are wanting in their sites.

You probably know yourself you've got some work to do... You can start by asking youself, is that a site i'd want to stay and explore or leave right away?

True, the design is quite bad, but you can easily give your site a better feel by moving to Wordpress or something.
