The first thing that jumps out at me is the non-necessity of the turntable, at least as far as it relates to the logo itself. The impact of the mark is going to be far stronger if you stick with the type treatment you have going right now. Having said that though, I would consider a different font. Arial Black is pretty bland and isn't really going to stand out. Helvetica Neue, Frutiger or Gotham would all be solid options.
Admittedly, this is pretty subjective, but I'm not a huge fan of the maroon and black color scheme. Maybe consider a lighter tint of red for more impact.
Lastly, I saw it mentioned that the turntable is going to be used on a small scale for ratings and whatnot. If that's the case, I think its still far too detailed. You're going to lose all the details that you have as soon as its shrunk down. To keep things cohesive but scalable, maybe think about just using just the red buzzsaw/album as the unit for ratings instead of the whole turntable setup.
I hope this doesn't come off as overly harsh. I think you have a solid start here, but I wanted to throw out my ideas for ways to take it to the next level. Hope this helps!
The first thing came to my mind was the logo of Razor the scooter company.
Logo looks good there... but when it is small and pixellated you might loose the sharp points and the detail.
Overall love the color palette, its bold and clean. I am not sure the actual logo design is working hard enough for you -- its hard to even know what it means without the graphic above. Are you looking at taglines to support the logo?
The graphic is interesting, but busy. I know you have probably simplified it quite a bit already, but you might want to try different versions of it. I am not sure if the saw blade as a record works for me.
A little too much and too many between the lines meanings for impact. Who is this for? What is purpose? Probably an opportunity to combine the two major visuals into one. Either brand in box or lose the box...and any non-value added design element.
i think that the text looks GREAT but the record player shape looks extremely basic and takes away from the rest of the design.
all in all i love the type...and would recommend removing the idea of a logo to go with it.
Hi there, is there any way to incorporate more product elements so it doesn't look industrial?
The design is good so far, like you said its an early piece of work. I'm getting that this is a music style website/event from the decks, perhaps its a "whats all the buzz about" style site or event.
Apart from that I'm not sure what it is designed FOR. Explain it a bit better to me. Also my first thoughts may be wrong so if you explain in more detail I can make a better judgement on the designs relevance to the purpose.
What software did you use to create the design? Did you hand draw the first mockup or use a program?
It's an album and concert review site. The logo is serving 2 purposes. The "record player" is going to be used in the site's rating system like the stars are used on this site, and also as a logo to go on business cards. The logo is also being used as the new logo for the whole website. I was given 4 days for the business card and rating system logo so it's a bit tricky to come up with something highly detailed in that time. I have an extension on the website logo so that will come later. All of this was done in Photoshop.
I love the feel of your title "buzzafied" bold with the saw blade at the front.
Apply that feel to the record player - bold, minimalist- make it more iconic. Focus on the important parts : the buzz saw record and the arm of the record player.
good stuff.
The text is very good, but the logo seems to be too simple and boring. Not the concept, but the implementation, i believe you could develop the idea better.
I agree completely, but at the same time the record player is going to be used mostly at a very small scale. Therefore I was trying to keep it simple yet tie it in with the text. I'm not sure if the player is going to be included with the new site logo.
I just like the text with the logo, I might try something with the ZZ and the razor edge
I appreciate the feedback. The font actually is Helvetice Neue. I also tried a bright red and it almost seemed too overpowering but maybe I shoul revisit.
Also I like the idea of just the blade for the rating system. I will definitely have to suggest it.
