    UX Home Run

I love UX design, and concept kicks A$$. I would totally use this site for my business tv.

I think it speaks to modern business pros and the like with its sleek gradients and fine lines.

The ad at the top can be easily hidden with jquery close scripts.

I might change the "JOIN NOW" button to a non blue color since its a blue overload up there. "login" text inside the button might be better off orange or blue but not white.

    SHOW ME SOME INTERIOR DESIGNS!

Glad you like it. I've made a few amends and added some new files showing the colour variations in the top gallery and an example video page.

Let me know what you think...

This looks slick in terms of appearance. Are you creating content and then hope to attract enough viewers and then to attract advertisers? Who will be allowed to upload videos? Will they be paid for them?

I think adding a paragraph of text between the top part and the Latest videos etc might help explain your overall plan for the site a bit more.

Thanks for pointing out the typo.

I'll look into adding the explanation above the Latest Videos section, thanks!

    link colour

Posted on Oct 02, 2010 at 8:19 AM

Overall Nice. What is the banner at the top for? Is it advertising. Maybe that is not the best location for advertisements, as the top content usualy is usually reserved for the sites own logo or title. I don't like all the blue links against the orange. Why are not all links either blue or orange?

I would remove/move the banner but unfortunately a banner in this position is the most desirable for advertizers and draws the most revenue, particularly for pay-per-click advertizers.

The various link colours in the top gallery did raise some usability issues so they are now all blue. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

This site looks great! I think the 4 video categories that I see blend into each other too easily. I'm not sure if the tags section is necessary. I might get rid of it, but I like the site overall! Good job!

Thanks for you comments, I'll look at distinguishing the video sections a little more.

    Header and Videos Box

Posted on Sep 28, 2010 at 1:01 PM

I realize the importance of the advertisement banner on the header, however it's just doesn't fit the page. I would honestly lose it and depend on your other ad banner for the sake of the user. If you choose to keep it, make it the same color as your the rest of your header and maybe an orange border to have it stick out.

I think the latest and popular videos section needs to have a distinct separation. What about placing a light gray box around each one similar to the twitter updates box

Thanks for you comments. I agree with the comments regarding the banner Ads but unfortunately they will be supplied by external clients so I can't control the colour or design of them. The positioning of the banners is also quite restrictive, it all comes down to generating money!

    change you advertising

Posted on Sep 28, 2010 at 10:43 PM

I would loose the banners and use something like this http://www.longtailvideo.com/adsolution/ (not saying thats the best i just know of it) for your revenue generation.

How do you define popular videos? I would be leveraging commenting like js-kit or disqus and using facbkook like buttons to help engage users and drive traffic to your site

otherwise i don't mid the site design

I'd love to remove them but I've tried and its not an option. We're also using a similar product to Longtail in the video players.

The social links and commenting features will all be part of the video page, I'll post the designs once they are ready.

    alignment

Posted on Sep 30, 2010 at 4:07 AM

Nice layout but I think it could use some more attention to details like typography, alignment and focus.

-The twitter and fb login buttons draw a lot of attention, I would dim them by making them either grey or opacity:~50% Dimming these buttons will automatically put the focus completely back on the Join Now button, which is probably better for the website owner.

    -The logo is very cool

-I'm not sure why but I have a problem with how the font looks everywhere in the site, it's just Arial right? I love arial but in this design it annoys me. Maybe it's just because I see the same text everywhere and it draws like, lines and boxes.

-I think the upload and join buttons have a gradient that should be less black in the end, if you brighten up the bottom color I think the buttons will look cleaner.

-The footer columns don't line up with the main columns

-The orange bar at the top draws a lot of attention and then it just has a text that says "last updated: 2 minutes ago", I think this is not useful information for viewers. This bar would look good if it's empty. Or you can put the breadcrumb in there.
