    Header Great, Page not so

Posted on Sep 28, 2010 at 1:07 PM

The header looks great, good work! However, the page isn't quite up to par with what you see in the header. Style the posts area to make them stick out and get your readers attention. http://welovewp.com/ is a great place to get this sort of inspiration.

Thanks for the review. I tried to style the post with sticky notes effect, but it was looking like too much graphics and the main attention from the content was getting lost also client wants a clean look that is why I did not go for that.

    structure

I have mixed feelings about this design. On one hand I appreciate the simplicity and on the other hand I think it could have been much more.

Some observations: -The sidebar content looks very busy and it draws focus with more strength than the main content. Are all the user photos really interesting for people who seek articles about project management?

-Advertising is a main menu link but I think <1% of users are looking to advertise on the site and if they want to, they will find the link if it's in the footer of the website, because that's where they will be looking for it.

-To put more focus on the articles you coud scale up the font of the headings, not sure about this though. I'm just trying to give some useful feedback but I guess when the main purpose of the website is serving articles you shouldn't "design" too many things besides the articles.

Therefore to improve the design I think the best strategy is to "remove distractions".

hope you find something useful in my review.

First of all sorry for being late in giving my reply. Surely I found your review helpful. Specially the busy right panel one. I shall consider it seriously.

    Depends

Posted on Sep 30, 2010 at 8:45 AM

It depends on you and your readers. Some people like to just read, and some like to be wow'd.

IMO. I'd use your shadow elements in that welcome section and apply them to your post summary's. Yes, summary, shorten up that second one.

I think your twitter thumbtack/paper element would make a great headline design on the post summary. Give it a try

Sure I shall give it a try. But my client a very clean look that is why I did not use it, but I shall see by myself how your idea looks in the design.

Great header indeed. Maybe a bit more clear introduction and less text on the home page?
