    Better Description of your Question

Posted on Sep 16, 2010 at 4:57 PM

If by "Passion" you mean sex, I think the best picture is 1001.

If you mean passion in the sense that someone loves something so much they devote all their energy to it (golf, scale modeling, motorcycles, etc...), than none of these pictures convey that.

    Number 1

First off, great job! These look really good!

    1. I absolutely vote for #1. For me it's all about the eyes. In the first shot she has a very elusive yet intriguing look. In the subsequent photos (especially #3) her eyes look a bit dead.
    2. This one seems much more detached. Less passion than calm confidence.
    3. She just looks bored here.
    4. This is a close second. This really depends on your own definition of 'passion'. To me I don't see passion, I see a sexual energy (reinforced through the cat-like stance). But to some, sexual energy = passion.
    5. This is more of a coy flirtatious look to me.

Again, these are all personal opinions! But great work!

Thank you very much for your feedback! Does the position of the model (specifically her legs) bother you at all in #4? Let me know what you think!

    Gut reactions

Posted on Sep 16, 2010 at 5:19 PM

I'd love to know a few more details about the assignment in order to give you better feedback, but here's some gut reaction on passion levels...

To me, the first one (#1037) conveys the most passion, because:

    • In the other shots, her head/chin is either level (serious; business-like) or tilted forward (submissive; coy; reserved). But the positioning and angle of her head in this one helps project confidence (a key characteristic of passionate people) and poise.
    • Having her mouth slightly open suggests she's intrigued / interested in whatever she's doing or looking at.
    • The lighting of her eyes in this shot is by far the best of the group.
    • I think her hands and body language in this shot better reflect what you're looking for than the others. She's certainly showing sex appeal in photo #0982-2, but that feels more "seduction" than "passion."

    Thoughts on the others:

    1. #0959-2: It's "okay," but if you changed her outfit this one could also pass for a corporate-type pose.
    2. #1053-2: This one has the least passion of the group. By far.
    3. #1001: I know what she/you were going for here, but this one just feels weird/distracting.
    4. #0982-2: This would be my second choice for "passion," but the first one has twice as much of it.

To be honest, it doesn't look like your model put much effort into exuding a sense of passion. (Either that, or perhaps she's new to modeling?) Either way, it doesn't give you much to work with!

    Hope that helps. -Tom

Thank you, Tom! Such a fantastic and in-depth review! I should come clean and say that this shoot didn't start with "passion" as the theme, it's more of a "looking for what fits best for what I need after the fact" situation... So I can't fault the model for not exuding passion. I think someone else mentioned sultriness, which is definitely what she's giving. Thanks again!

Beautiful photos! That being said, depending on the degree of aggresiveness in passion, I think different photos convey slightly different meanings.

    1. Warmth.
    2. Very Intense. Probably the most passionate looking. A little bit on the aggresive side.
    3. Mild. Welcoming.
    4. A little flirty.
    5. Sexy.

If I had to pick one, I would pick #2. Hope this helps.

    Gorgeous, but....

Posted on Sep 16, 2010 at 5:55 PM

Nick, all the photos are lovely. the girl is striking and the set is intriguing. But passion? Hmmm...more like sexy, more like seductive. These would be perfect under the title "sultry." But passion has intensity that, while she's pretty, and the photos are well shot, isn't in this collection. Other comments:

1037: There's a black thread falling over her left index finger that was totally distracting. At first I couldn't figure out what was wrong with her finger. The big ring is distracting. It works in the other photos, but too much for me in this one.

0959-2: Her eyes are great. If I was directing this shot, for passion, I would have her put tension in her right hand (or both hands). They shouldn't be resting on the table, but should be reaching, and intently. I could see cropping this photo for just the head, because there's one other thing that bothers me, and it's her hair. It's got a weird little bump on the left side.

1053-2: great eyes. Might work as a tight head shot. Still got that hair problem. 1001: Great shot. Very sexy, very pretty, kind of innocence mixed with hooker. Not passion. But great to look at. 0982-2: See above. That's a very hot photo. Almost NSFW. I would title it "seduction" but not passion.
Thanks for sharing these. Nice eye candy. Hope these comments help.

passion-0982-2.jpg Out of the group that's the best for Passion for me. The others don't seem to be passionate. Great photos.. but not for what you're after. They'd be great for other emotions.

passion-1037.jpg "Look at my Ring.. or collar?'

passion-0959-2.jpg Looks like she's a bit mat at me.

passion-1053-2.jpg Looks like she's a bit tired of posing for you..

passion-1001.jpg This one is close to passionate, but maybe if she had one leg on the table already to climb up.. current pose I'm not sure if she's just leaning on the table rather than coming over to grab me passionately.

    Emotionally flat

Posted on Sep 16, 2010 at 6:28 PM

Hi Nick, cool to see photography on concept feedback!

I like the images, but am not sure if passion is what I think when I see them.

3 and 5 are a bit hot in the background.

As far as expression goes - the body language is fine, but the facial expressions... well, it's tough. She really doesn't do a good job of saying passion with her face, and that's a very common problem with amateur models.

That being said, #1 has the best facial expression, and #4 has the best body position.

Hope this helps! What's the shoot for?

Thank you for the feedback! The shoot was originally just a portfolio piece, but is now being repurposed... Can't say much more than that publicly, but private message me if you're curious. Thanks again!

    Passion...

Posted on Sep 16, 2010 at 8:55 PM

The 1st one is the most invoking of passion, but as others have said the model seems a bit flat and lacking of passion.

I think the lighting is a bit odd on the 4th one, I have pointed out, what looks like photoshop lighting... (not saying you did) just feels and looks really odd...

    Or is that just me?

Overall the first one does it for me...

Thanks for the feedback! And actually, believe it or not, that light is real! The image actually hasn't been Photoshopped at all, just raw adjustments in Lightroom. :-)

    nr 1 and nr 4

Posted on Sep 17, 2010 at 8:24 AM

nr 4 for me has the strongest passion, because you can see it on the face, of course the clothing is erotic so the mind associates this passion look and posture with sex, the face on the other hand if you would put for example a boring police uniform on hear (not to look good and to get you back to sex and fetish stuff), the face still gives you the strong feeling of a woman that is passionate about her job and wants thinks to go hear way ... :)

It had to be the last image, no?

Posted on Sep 17, 2010 at 9:36 AM

I really don't get the fuss about the first image.

I find the position and posture incredibly odd, and I don't really see the "passion" at all. When I think of passion I'm thinking about love, sex, eroticism, desire....especially when the image is of an attractive female with bright red lipstick and fur around her neck.

So for me, the last image is the one. She is almost beckoning, almost asking you to "come here". You could even get the feeling she's making a move to undressing.

    I dunno, it's very subjective.

But the pics are nice. Good luck!

    Background

Posted on Sep 17, 2010 at 1:50 PM

First of all, please excuse my boldness and the short review but I think most advice has been given already and I really need to go... :) I don't mean it in a bad way.

I'm not sure if this has been said, but I think the background looks like a not so well executed photoshop job. I'm really not sure what exactly would work well, but I don't think you should leave it like this.

    Thank you and no offense!

    Another model maybe?

Posted on Sep 16, 2010 at 6:30 PM

Nick, this gal is gorgeous, and the colors/textures of the images beautiful and well-executed, but I don't see "passion" here. LIke others who have already commented, I do see sexuality, especially in 1001 (given the appearance of thighs).

Not sure if this is the right gal to exude passion. Have you got other models to post? Or, can you find a way to generate a sense of real intensity from this gal (beyond just the eyes)?
