2nd one is better- however, it still does not represent 'b' and 'd' - may be you can try making the top fold little longer- that might help.

I will definitely give it a go. Expect more drafts soon!

PS: can anybody tell me how I can add a link in this site to an older concept? Thx!

interesting concept. the b kind of hides the d, so most people won't get that it's a B or a D right away if ever. I like it, and I get it, but I'm a creative person.

As said before; I will try a new approach with seperated 'b' and 'd'.

how about adding a 'character' texture to the surfaces. A staggered pattern of small b's and d's.

or moving them a little bit closer, so you see the bottom part of both 'letters'

also, as said in a previous review, you may think of breaking the symmetry a little bit by enlarging the top part of letter d. It might add interest to the design.

Good idea, adding a 'b' and 'd' pattern. I'm only afraid it will work when a large logo is displayed, not when it's small. I'll give it a go anyway!

Stem length and the bottom of b's width.

Posted on Sep 09, 2010 at 10:29 AM

Hi Birger, First, I would like to say that this logo drew my attention to it right away from afar; compared to the others displayed. Secondly, I have to admit I was having fun looking at the unique shapes and was floored when I read that it was supposed to be a b and d.

So, I think the best way to handle this one would be to make the stem longer on the top part of the b and the d. Then I'm not really sure if this one could stand alone and would need the name of the company under it so relation is clear on the b and d. Then after awhile it may stand on it's own recognition. I think if you add a back to the b and d that you will lose the beauty of this a bit. Yet, it may be worth trying for the clarity of it.

Is the bottom of your "b" the right width compared to the front of the "b"? it looks a bit thinner... thus throwing off the grey triangle a bit ( compared to the others).

    I like the colors used.

Thanks for the nice comment! As mentioned before, I will give it a go (the larger stem). Yes, both widths are the same, but because it's a false perspective (not a proper 2-points perspective), it looks a bit odd. I will make a new version in a proper 3D-program.

Also I think your comment about the missing company name is correct. I recently read an interesting article about logo design (link: http://speckyboy.com/2010/09/09/eight-helpful-rules-for-logo-designers/), I will try and make a new design keeping your wonderful suggestions in mind!

      Thanks!

add company name and be done

Posted on Sep 15, 2010 at 4:22 PM

I like the textured one better. The depth is fantastic.

My instinct though it to even up the tops and bottoms. But logic tells me that kills the perspective. And the perspective is more important I think.

I'm not sure why everyone is worked up about whether or not it looks like a literal "bd". This is a logo mark. It stands on its own. It's nice that it was inspired by "bd", but who cares if it looks specifically like "bd"? Many logo marks seemingly have nothing to do with the company name. It's strong, engaging, memorable. Just add a well-designed company name to your mark and you are golden.

    Nice work!

I like your point of view. I agree a logo mark doesn't have to look like a literal interpretation of the company name or a part of it; but it sure helps!

I tried to make the logo in a proper 3D program, but I couldn't get the look right, so I'm going to keep it this way.

      Thanks!

    Add company name?

Posted on Sep 11, 2010 at 6:05 AM

I think this logo marque doesn't exist in a vacuum. It needs to be accompanied by the logotype. Hard to review without it. But the design is strong, and I think it represents B and D well.

I'm really liking the 2nd design but the idea (that someone else mentioned) of the little 'b' & 'd' pattern sounds cool.

Also, as you've given it a proper 3d perspective, could you actually complete both letters, as the bottom back of both the letters is currently missing.

I think the missing back of both the letters adds to the design. Now it's up to me to make it clear it's a 'b' and a 'd' with the missing back ends.

better than what you have now, but...

Posted on Sep 07, 2010 at 1:02 PM

It's an improvement over the solid red bar I see on your website now.

I think the textured version is better than the plain one.

But it doesn't say much to me about your work. I wouldn't have noticed that it is the letters B and D except that you pointed it out in your description.

I do like the textured version more too; but the logo should work when it's small too. I will try to make the 'B' and 'D' more visible.
