I remember seeing an earlier iteration of this design. It's looking better. A few things to consider:

    • remove the drop shadow on the box
    • Fonts are inconsistent. i see a sanserif for the gray box and then serifs for the descriptions of your scripts and shaders
    • The photo of yourself is odd. it looks like a cheap photoshop trick. Even if its something created from one of your scripts, I'd suggest removing it.
    • lighten the gray box more. It's a bit dark and hard to read the text
    • as another person mentioned, the buttons are a little plain. make them larger, add more padding between the inner text and border. maybe do a light gray 2 or 3 pixel border instead similar to what you are using for the thumbnails.
    • I'm not a font expert but the font you are using in the header for your name, position and resume link seems like a novelty font. I'd suggest finding something more professional.
    • the "resume" link since it's done with the same treatment as the page title doesn't feel like a link and is disconnected from the rest of the design. Make it more obvious that it is a link or find another placement for it. Perhaps also add a "contact" link?

Will you go to site and see the updates?

Sure, just checked it out. I think the changes you made are good, especially having the videos in there to show the work.

However, I still suggest removing that photo at the top. The typography still feels like it needs work.

This might be just a personal opinion, but Times New Roman only feels appropriate for body text when the text is literary work. I suggest changing your fonts to Arial, Verdana, or Trebuchet.

      Also the footer feels unfinished.

    Change Drop Shadow

Posted on Aug 30, 2010 at 1:49 PM

The first thing that bothered me was the drop shadow. I think it would be better if it were just a flat gradient from black to white or removed completely. I like the minimalism of the layout overall, but the text/font seems inconsistent. The top of the layout looks like it's part of a different site compared to the bottom. At the top you're using sans-serifs, but at the bottom, your headers are sans-serif, but content text is serifs.

Would you suggest changing the sub-titles to sans-serif?

Personally, what I would do is change everything to sans-serif. Then whatever font you used for the top for your name and resume, use those for "Script"/"Shaders", etc. just to keep things consistent.

I think your right, I did it and it looks good! Still unsure what I'm going to do about the text

    Colors

    Hey,

Well I must say as an artist I expect bright colors the gray and black makes the whole site dull and boring. Good idea with the profile PIc but I would rather replace it with awell taken Photo.

Users do not like scrolling try and place your work right at the top, you could make a slider

I like it for the concept that if you are purposefully doing this, is more of a throw back to the 90's in the way of style. Good layout and spacing but the text, buttons, etc, are kinda plain. The concept now with your 3D work should show case 3D art integrated within your layout.

Something like a lot of game companies have. More color, shading, and jump off the page graphics.
