    Branding

Posted on Aug 24, 2010 at 2:54 PM

At first blush, I see some very popular design styles in use and it appears you know how to use them expertly. But I am left with a couple of question about the design shown above.

First: I'm not confident that I understand the branding graphic... alitimate? The typography (especially with the lens flare) make it difficult to read.

Second: all navigation falls below the fold.

Third: Your positioning statement (what you have to offer me) is somewhat vague.

I would suggest focusing on what you wish to accomplish with the site, and using the layout and interface of the site to communicate that message, and assist the user to move along that goal.

For example, if this site is meant to be a portfolio site to attract potential clients, then use copy to convey that message and calls-to-action to help me to make contact with you.

Good work. I hope to see more.

      Firstly thnx for your comment!

Yes, i know i have not followed the general practice and trends when it comes to the layout of the website.

      1. I wanted a very subtle background of the website so that my designs have complete focus. Thats why i have not given a lot fo importance to the branding-logo ..though its big..and i plan to give it a hover effect.

2.There would be a small button said"menu" which would slide u down to the navigation. i want the visitor to have a look at my design and then come to the navigation. If he doesnt find it on top..he will scroll down...and as the website is just about my portfolio + contact form + about me..the navigation is not vital i reckon..!! So thats what's in my mind regarding the navigation...

3.the statement will change its just temporary

Yes, the design is not complete it will have more interactive buttons so that the visitor can reach me easily. Though i have tried doing something different to stand against the 100000s of other portfolios out there.

    Interesting Designs!

Posted on Aug 25, 2010 at 4:46 AM

Hello there, This are nice designs but are from the same concept? :) I can't find a connection between them, but they really look cool and promising!

I like that Black big header and the colorful graphic under it, it's amazing! It does stand out of the rest of the portfolios out there :)

So overall this looks nice, but I want to see the final product, the website actually!

    Good Luck!

Hey! lol! they are not actually 2 different designs....Though i agree they do not look very similar.

The white bg body is the main website...it will have about 5-8 items to display ..not just 2. The gray/darker part is actually the footer of the website.

Thanx for your kind words and precious time everyone.. more comments appreciated & awaited.

    Logo

Posted on Aug 25, 2010 at 2:08 PM

    Hi Mohammed

This is a nice design, and I like certain parts, there is no doubt that you can design.

    Things that need attention:

    • Logo - what does it say? Make it legible, the font that you have chosen for this doesn't work to well, and to be honest I still can't pronounce the name. "Alitilate" ? is that Like titilate with ali stuck on the front?
    • Main Nav - ok so for me and general SEO it's best to have the main nav at the top of the page, especially as you have at the moment a massive illegible logo, also why are there 2 dots after contact?
    • Simple layout of a website is missing - ok so I know designers like to be different, but the thing is, there is a method to just about all designers and developers' website stick to certain rules. These are 1. header (includes logo and sometimes nav) 2. main nav (if not in header). 3. portfolio piece or show off area. 4. content 5. footer.

Although I like the colors it's missing a few vital elements, this is my opinion, you can take it or leave it, however I think it would look a lot cooler and better if it was laid out a bit better, and you rethink your logo.

    Good Luck! List item

    Contrast

Posted on Aug 25, 2010 at 6:38 PM

Your site looks almost like two different sites, which is weird, but also very interesting.

    Here are my thoughts

    1. Obviously you rlogo doesnt stand out much, make the white color at the top a BIT darker, that would make it much more legible.
    2. Navigation: Its different to have it at the bottom, which i think you might want to change, you could do a sticky navigation or something, have it stay at the bottom, but I think it should be easily accessible.
    3. Two dots after navigation?
    4. The About me blurb has a nice font, but it looks weird in bold. I would find a font similar that comes in a bolded version.

The inconsistancy either is either a mess or its one of the most innovative Ideas I've seen.

The other reviews and clients thoughts shall decide that.. >.>

    (I'm going with the latter.)

    Nice illustrations.

But needs clearer value proposition, or just leave that off and let the work speak for itself. We can see that it's pretty.

(What problem does your design work solve for me?)

    Confusing

Posted on Aug 27, 2010 at 9:54 AM

Hi , With first look i felt that the design is missing or you mixed up two designs.

Design is good in looks , but first look is confusing.

    1. The first part have completely different look than the bottom design. (Colors , white area gives a lot of empty space than the bottom area). It doesn't give a balance in design.
    2. You can use little more "Drop Shadow" for logo to make it stand out.
    3. Rest is good. Your idea of placing the portfolio at top is unique.

    Regards -Sadia-
