    SUGGESTIONS

    1) Placement of "Need our help?" box is causing gap at lower left portion of the footer. You may to place this box somwhere else or try to put something in lower left section.

    2) To maintain consistency "get in touch" should be "Get in touch".

Other than this, your template looks awesome considering it that this is your first template.

Excellent start! Keep up the good work :)

I'm not sure what stages of beginner in website designing you are(that was terribly written) but this is a very well constructed site, It just needs some tweaks.

I'm sure your going to get stomped for unoriginality, but hey, this is supposed to be able to be used by all kinds of companies, there isnt much you can do about that.

    Black background:

I would tone down that texture, just a tad, its a little distracting.

FONTS: Work on the fonts a bit, I think you have a very modern looking template, but its matched with a serif font, maybe if you changed the font face to something like arial, verdana, or helvetica this site would look much better.

SPACING: The navigational elements have waaay too much top spacing and not enough bottom, center them vertically.

TEXT: make the we can make a different blurb smaller, I wouldnt want to read that. even if the company will replace it.

POSITIONING: make the stuff like "The Right Tools" aligned to the left, I know your probably trying to switch it up, but it looks weird, no one is used to that.

also, give it some bottom space, since its smooshed up with the images.

    IMAGES: make the borders lighter.

COLORS: Make the text a dark-medium gr(e/a)y also, pick a color scheme, maybe a blue or something, since that gives a sense of power and strength, which is what most companies want perceived.

The "Our customers" stuff is really bright compared to the footer, make the background darker so the text stands out more.

      Hi Luke,

Thank you very much. Your comments really help me through the learning-process.

I got a full-time job, so it's completely new and something that I only have time for in the weekends. Again, thank you.

    Draft

Posted on Aug 23, 2010 at 10:03 AM

    Hi,

    The design is good overall.

But, as a suggestion, try a different picture. This doesn't seem very interesting. Is there a reason for all those heads to be cut off?

Definitely you should work better with the typography, especially with the titles. Try something bigger, with a dark-gray shade, and sans-serif.

The background texture on the footer is nice, but it's too obviously Photoshop. Looks tacky.

    Hope I have helped! :)

      Hi Joao,

Thank you very much for your feedback. I haven't seen the texture-effect before, so I did not think it was to 'untastefull'.

I cut of the heads, because I don't know if I'm allowed to use the image at all. It was taken from a sxc.hu. Do you know where to get good images, which I'm allowed to use in a template that is intended for free distribution?

    Body Text

Posted on Aug 23, 2010 at 11:59 AM

Good work done and a good start too.

Have this to say on your typography.

I think the body text is too long in length for the user's eye. I would rather split that to 2/3s and /or find something else to fit at the other part.

Look at some good point on typography for beginners.

Good start and lets see the progress when you implement other reviews too.

    Hope this helps. The best.

Thank you very much for the comments. The use of fonts are much more difficult than I imagined - I used a lot of time on finding the one for the menu, but I can understand from your article that I got much to learn still.
