    Big Improvement

Posted on Aug 03, 2010 at 2:43 PM

Hey Dan, This is really starting to look good! A big improvement from earlier I think, hopefully you agree as well. I really like the change in the background as well as the header background graphic. Nice job!

I took a look at the site and have a few more suggestions, but it's really beginning to come along quite well.

    1. The clean gradient over the menu items looks good, but doesn't exactly fit the graphic theme. Maybe keep with the grunge style and just change the background color from that orange to white or something.
    2. I still think the input fields would look good white, or at least some color that isn't so close to the background color
    3. I like the buy now buttons! Did you try making the price larger so that "buy now" is more towards the bottom?
    4. Make the footer span across all the content (aka, your sidebar as well). Have you tried that blue or orange color as the footer background color? I'm not really to fond of the inner shadow effect since it isn't anywhere else on the site. Stay with the grunge theme!
    5. I would definite consider adding footer menu links since you do have many menu items and most likely you'll have content on some pages that will scroll (for example product sections that have a ton of items).
    6. I think you have the room for it, I think going for a square or 4:6 picture would look a little better than the skinny head picture you have currently. It works for heads right now, but imagine trying to fit some of the other products in those image dimensions. And you'll definitely want to be consistent with image dimensions across pages :-)
    7. I know you're not probably there yet, but it'd definitely look cool to have a hover over effect on the product images with a larger size photo of the product. It's pretty typical for stores nowadays and relatively easy to do with CSS.
    8. Not sure if this just hasn't been implemented yet, but you don't have a "buy now" button on the actual product page. Probably want to make that haha
    9. I'd increase the spacing between the content and the footer on the product page. The "Features" section is actually closer to the footer than the product image. It'll make it look more like it belongs to the image if it's relatively closer.
    10. A smaller suggestion, I think it'd add a bit of coolness to have icons for the "Search For Equipment", "Browse Equipment" and "Stay Informed"sections

Well things are really looking good. Hopefully these little tidbits help again! Looking good.

Couldn't put it better. Great improvement too, just need some small changes.

    Magic Wand?

Posted on Aug 04, 2010 at 10:35 AM

You really really either need to reproduce that logo (trace it) in vector, or get the company to supply you with a proper one.
If neither is possible: - invert the logo layer in photoshop, making the background black - go to the channels panel - ctrl click the thumbnail for the graphic... this will PROPERLY select the logo contents.

The magic wand is not the appropriate tool to extract a logo from a white background. If you can't do any of the above, at least add an outer glow, or put it inside a white background.

I like the texture, and the strap... although it could possibly be positioned a bit better.

The logo was incoming. I just received the file. What do you mean strap?

      Thanks for the review.

Add some graphics to the page background

Posted on Aug 04, 2010 at 2:07 AM

    Hi Dan,

I would suggest adding some graphics to the page background - maybe even in a graffiti style, or a 'splash' style.

    For example see;

    http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-illustration-11992294-graffiti-background.php

Adding these sorts of elements will create interest and attract your target audience.

    Good luck,

    Ross

    textiness

    Textiness.

This site is supposed to appeal to restless male teenagers. Howabout some photos? Graphics? You have the advantage of actually selling something that can be seen and touched, so why not give it to the visitors? Right now this site looks more like a blog than like the front end of a sports equipment store. Make it a little more exciting for those video and photo-driven teenage junkies !!
