This design has a really nice colour scheme, and the top bar is really nice, including the icons and logo. The one thing that I dont like is the boxes. I think that if you added rounded corners to them, it could look amazing. (I realise that my answer is always rounded corners, but I mostly feel it will improve the site by loads). Also, keep the right bar as one box, seperated by lines. Apart from these minor complaints though, its really nice. And for your first design - well done!

If you check the 2nd image out of my concept it contains rounded edges (this is the screeny I took and uploaded the other is via entering my URL and it capturing images) so not sure why its displaying it.... ummmm....weird

Hi Adam,
Looks like you're having fun with WP, here a few comments:
- You've got a very basic design, which can work great with the right typography (whereby that dictates the flow), but in its current state I as a viewer would like to see more of your style. One could argue the posts contrast nicely, but at the end of the day it's all boxed up and gray. You'll want to let it flow more... (esp. the widgets on the right).
- Did you want to align the top of the thumb to the top of the post header?
- Put a break before "read more.."
- Comments count is a tad distracting atm.
- Social Media Icons should probably fall in line with the general color scheme, if you're staying with those.
- Almost too much padding at the top of the widgets.
- Not sure if the header is working for me, seems almost too broad of a slogan for a portfolio blog, but that's just preference.
- Footer still WIP?
I think you've got a good grid layout going, just a matter of getting more bang in there :)

Thank you for the feedback, I have take ll things you have mentioned on board. I do agree the style of very bland, I'm thinking of two things, either a)adding a background (minimal background) but something that will stand out. b)changing the colour scheme of the entire site something that's a bit more more bright. The alignment of the image, I did attempt to align it but was having issues with it. I think I will remove the comments counter. I get what you mean about the social media icons I will fit them in to my scheme. Thinking of doing what about what Sam mentioned about eh sidebars and making it in to one block. Yea I might just get rid of the slogan, not really a purpose for it.

except what Noel and Sam mentioned I think you should either make the corners, top corners round like your boxes or 100% width like the header. And I like the design, try all the thinks you sad you will in your comments but keep the minimalistic style and you will have a fantastic design.

Hey, the layout is quite good in general. But there are some elements that could be improved, like the content boxes, their stroke lines are too dark, moving my attention from the text to the outlines.
You could also improve the menu design, the logo and add something that makes your website more unique.
Btw, in my opinion thats not the right logo for your layout.

Thank you Sam, I get where you are coming from with the whole sidebar separation. In Firefox and Google Chrome the boxes do have round edges, well on mine they are showing up... ummm will do a bit of research in to this. Thanks for the review and your kind words :-)
