option 2 is better but i believe you need another color on the page and/or use a bit saturated shade of red- this one is really overpowering.

    Headlines

The headlines on the left are way too big, reduce the size so that the one on the right can stand out

Totally agree, I thunk most of the headlines are too big, and the other text is too closely packed. Space it out a bit.

    Variation of the red

Posted on Jul 09, 2010 at 3:18 PM

The first thing that attracted my attention (and thats an important aspect) was the navigation and the ribbon effect. Its fantastically pulled off. I like that ribbon, its very well done, so congratulations on that. (also with the other ribbons on the page)

One issue I have is the fonts, they are, well, pretty boring. Why not try mixing up the layout, adding some more content areas and playing around with different fonts. Have a look here and here for some good ideas on how to use serif and sans-serif fonts together. It can really make a difference.

Also, the background is a tad plain. Nice job on the gradient, but the gray and white is a bit boring and needs some more variation. (just being crazy here, but if you can do ribbons like that, why not try this and go all 3D)

The final point is the red. I know you have told us that you can't change the red of the logo, but what about saturation (like what was mentioned earlier in another post), red is not a colour it is a spectrum of different hues. Red + noise = amazing (if done right), why not try mixing up the reds a bit more.

    Hope this helps.

Oh and BTW: Option 2 is better, the image overlay is cleaner. Still try it with less of a curve. Final chao

It's very hard when you have restriction like I do on this design. You can easily get caged up, even more than needed. Thank you or all the great inputs. Thats what i needed. Links are good inspiration. Will see what i can mix up :)

I don't like the super saturated red

Posted on Jul 09, 2010 at 7:59 PM

First of all, I like your layout. The version with the comic-style bubble is the better one.

But the colors are very simplistic. I don't like this extremely saturated red. And to make things worse, it's the only color - the rest is gray. You need a different, richer color theme.

The website also lacks texture, lacks any graphics - and that makes it look too strict. Try playing with some gradients, perhaps some sort of background texture?

    add a secondary color

Posted on Jul 12, 2010 at 10:23 AM

The layout is pretty simple, but effective. I prefer the concept that splits the image in half because the marketing message stands out a bit more. However, I'd spice up this area a bit more by making the background gradient a different color than the background. In addition, I'd like to see a secondary color that would tone down the red. For example, you could keep the logo, calendar dates, and maybe the headings red, but the nav bar, phone number, and marketing message headline could be a contrasting or complimentary color. This would help make the simple design more effective.

The footer could also use some more work. Try making the entire footer gray instead of just the one line of text.

    body text

Posted on Jul 12, 2010 at 10:47 AM

    It's cool...

I think the bg seems to almost seperate out the site as if you've got it sectioned off - because the grey grad takes up that much space.

Its a nice simple layout though that works well for its purpose

It'd be good if you could use a nicer font for body text and some depth to the page itself. Maybe adding some more interaction points for users would help this design out too

    Body needs love

Posted on Jul 09, 2010 at 10:53 AM

    Hey there,

I think you did well with the colors (based on the existing brand of the company's logo). I also like the ribbons around the menu bar and the left column.

My suggestions would be to spice up the body more. Consider slimming the left column to 33% and break the right section into a paragraph with a uniform list underneath or incorporate a row of thumbnails under the 1st paragraph or in the left column to explain "WHAT" this is.

Out of the 2 options I think the display of the banner description i like v2 better. The shadow on v1 is really rough and demanding, maybe if you use an opacity instead of the metallic look it would fit better.

    Hope that helps ;)

Good suggestions. And I really wasn't sure which of the two "highlight"-banners i would use. Wasn't 100% on either. Now I have something to go on.
