GREAT idea with the illustration and style of the site - HOWEVER, in my opinion you ain't there yet. The illustrations of the tree, ground, fence and so on looks as if they were made in paint, which look kind of dull. Especialy the tree and ground.
You sould allso be more strictly to alignment.
And what seems to be “about” have way to little spacing. People are not interessted in reading all that! Create some exciting typograhy or something, so that you can catch people's attention!
And remember to fix so that all pages are not “portofolio” ;)
I definitely like the idéa, and think you should keep the tree, but just adding maybe two other colours of brown (on the brown) and green on the green, would pop thing much more!
Not making detailed illustrations, but a simple twitter type design, if you get my point?
And Don't try to get it all on one page! White space is not waisted space, less is more! :)
I think you have a different concept with the whole horizontal navigation thing. However, even though I like rough style illustration (when you don't mind as an artist whether elements look slick and neat) this is too like a "school playground" drawing.
I don't know if that's what it is supposed to be like but if you like it thats all that matters I guess :)
You could do with more space filling content as there isn't much happening. In fact some content could be put together on one page rather than spread over many.
Actually, this is the style that i had in mind when i started the design in photoshop.
I do agree about the space filling part, there is too much free space, i tried some things, but it's hard to fill it up and still keep it clean and neat.
But i'm working on it
I think that was a great web design. I like the orginality that the site is as a illustration. I think maybe you can work more with the tree. Rest of the illustrations are nice
The colours in the design are lovely. I think it's be light and quiet.
I like also the typografi. It be a fine contrast between the handwriten font and the straight font.
I think it's a good idea of you to use some flash elements to make more dynamic.
I like that work
Hi, thank you for your feedback.
I must totally agree about the tree, i'm gonna re-do or just maybe delete it tomorow.
Cool concept... Just be careful that the portfolio itself does not outshine the work its design to showcase. Remember that a portfolio is used to so potential clients or employers that you do great work. Keep the design simple (which you've done), easy to navigate, and show your work as large as possible.
I've hired many designers over the years, and I prefer to let the work speak for itself. I only have a few minutes to check out a portfolio, so I need to understand right away that you do great work, as well as your design process. I'm not impressed with novel portfolio websites where I can't figure out the navigation, or the work itself is lost.
I think you're off to a great start!
Check out vimeo.com's log in page. Looks like this, http://www.thebigpugh.com/web/images/projects/lrg/vimeo1.jpg It's awesome. Put more detail into your artwork.
I really like it! I would add some more to the tree/soil/fence illustrations. Texture...
Other than that, very nice!
I totally see what you're going for, but you're not quite there.....yet.
The easiest thing that I see to fix is the transitions that you have from section to section on the site. The animation just seems a little choppy, not sure of this is the FPS or if it's a size issue, but if you could get that to look a bit more smooth, it'd help out a lot.
On some of the pages the illustrations seem to be lacking, I can definitely see what you are going for though, it almost reminds me of vimeo.com a little bit. Maybe you could look around at a few illustrative web sites and get some ideas on how to liven things up a bit.
As for the overall layout and structure of the site, I think it works very well for a portfolio.
Just a few suggestions, but I'd say you're off to a great start, keep posting as you progress!
Hi,
thank you for you comment.
As for the transition, i totally forgot about the FPS, i think it's still the standard setting, but i'll change it.
For the illustrations, i'm currently changing them right now.
I'll post the finished result in about 2 weeks.
I do like it, but my problem with it is that it looks a lot like Twitter. If possible clients are your audience instead of possible employers (in the design/ ad field) it may not matter so much b/c your clients may not be on Twitter and don't have that frame of reference.
Thanks for the feedback.
I've showed this to some other people and they all said i should remove the tree, because it just doesn't fit
The problem that i have is when you add some litle illustrations to a page, i always expect something else on another page.
But i'm thinking om something else to add to it.
And i must agree about the spacing, but in the end it think it will just be a short text, nothing long.
About the menu, i totally forgot about that :)
