This is a website about hot girls?

Sadly, had this been a design for an e-commerce site or suchlike, it is actually rather good. But for a site to rate pictures of girls - boy do you over complicate things.

Not only that, but the colours and visual schemes are all wrong for a website like this. There's no sex appeal, the pictures are too small to really grab you and create any interest.

Look at mens magazine websites. Black and strong colours such as pink, orange and green dominate. You've got a drab beige background, and very minimal use of colour.

The layout is also far too complex for a site that, realistically, people are not going to spend much time on. You've given too much space to "Hot chick of last week", "Vote for next theme" and other elements. Like I said, the pictures are not big enough. If this is about sexy girls, then a sexy girl should be absolutely dominating the page, almost completely covering it.

Your buttons are too big, which also takes away valuable space. For example the "See all entries and VOTE" button is huge. It could be a third of the size it currently is.

I just struggle to see how a design that looks so cluttered, and corporate, like for a shopping site, is going to work for a site that is about voting for girls based on their looks.

I would also question the need for such a site. I'm not sure many girls would bother using it, going to the effort of taking pictures on the off chance they might win a £30 prize, and what's in it for the guys? You're not providing anything here to men, that they don't already have in absolute abundance elsewhere. The guys aren't going to care for girls winning prizes either, and without guys, this site won't ever work. The fact that the pics are also so small and the design is so cluttered makes it difficult to see how guys can quickly access big pictures of girls.

Generally, I'd conclude that I don't really buy the idea for this site and I'm not sure how it would actually work. Aside from that, the design I feel is, although clean and professional, entirely inappropriate for a website focused on "sex appeal" and revealing pictures of girls. It's also cluttered, with some elements taking up too much room for no apparent reason. There's very little white space and the adverts make the site feel even further cramped.

A step I would take is scrapping the homepage altogether and having the Vote Page as the homepag.e The bigger pictures will help create immediate interest.

    Good luck!

P.S I would very strongly advise upping your age limit to 18.

Thanks a lot for the review man! I agree with almost all of your comments on the interface and will implement them in a re-design; references are very helpful too. However, I believe in the concept for the site. HotorNot.com didn't offer anything for the guys at all and remember how hugely popular it was a couple years back and then sold for $20million. This site will be even more attractive to guys because they get to choose what the girls do by suggesting and voting on themes. And for girls - they are happy to post photos for free, but the prize - which will increase in value once the site takes off - is a big benefit. Thanks again!

Hi Artem, I'd argue HotorNot did offer guys a feature. It allowed guys to actually interact with the girls they were voting for. Maybe you should consider such a feature!

It does now, but did it in the beginning? I don't remember that. But my site will have comments on the votepage; plus each user (contestant or voter) will be logged in with Facebook so they can connect

    Focus less on advertisements

Posted on Jun 30, 2010 at 4:20 PM

I agree with the first review, and I also think that its better to focus more on the visitors right now, before trying to get the advertisements and money making schemes in..

I mean, you can always leave room for them later and plan it out now, but right now there is not enough of the "HOT CHICK" on the page.
