Good use of brushes here. I think almost everything is OK.
Maybe just the gradient of your social links is not so good and the blue behind the logo and brushes is looking weird in the lower part of it.

The design is solid, though personally I'm not a fan of the style, but it's popular and likely a good choice for your demographic.
I'd be concerned with your info ending up below the fold though. I'd tighten up the header and bring that info up where it can be seen.
The current news title font and Enter site could use some pop as well. It's image based anyways so maybe bringing in some of the logo styling will give it some pop.

I think the huge header is effective if you give us something more worthwhile to look at, this header though busy has no real substance. The gradients for the Connections side bar is way way too much, subtlety will do you better. I think you could have more fun with the footer. Besides that I think the colors are very very appealing

Hey Analise, thanks for the feedback. The soul purpose of the header is just for wow factor. Not really for function. The site is aimed to draw potential chorus members in through the use of complex graphics. The chorus members come from a younger demographic. Mostly around 14-18. Some as young as 12.
