The logo is way to top heavy at the moment. I think you'll have a lot more success is the skool boy ribbon is enlarged and placed on the bottom1/3 of the book. This will create a bit more unity between the two elements. I love the idea though! Any other versions of the same logo?

There's something that I look and don't underestend. The book is open by my side or the other one... You can try to enlarge the banner and put the book inside the space and up orientation. Go ahead.

I'm not sure whether the client wants a dark book but if that's the case then that is fine for them but as a designer you should probably do a few concepts that are lighter or contrasted differently.
I'm not sure about the ribbon. Somehow I think it wont fit "perfectly" against the shape of the book. Good luck though dude.
