I like the uncluttered simplicity of this! Everything can breathe and makes sense in position, i actually read the 3 points to figure out what the dog is on about, so considering that users don't normally read, well done on that!
I really like this project and do hope it succeeds!
Here's a few suggestions:
Make it clear that the site is a search engine - when I saw the search, I thought it was just for the site (since many sites have a "search the web" button too). After I read the description I thought, "now what do I search for? Is it something specific? I'd consider adding in a little tagline such as "search anything, earn coins!" (or something better ;)). Additionally, it might be a good idea to add suggestions of things to search, such as popular queries. Most search engines have the ability to search for images and news - elements which make clear the site's purpose. Adding in a small Yahoo! icon might help as well.
The blue frontpage banner looks off by one pixel. I'm not sure if that was intentional, but is an easy fix ;)
There's a lot of empty white space in the main body area on the frontpage. I'd suggest adding in some more information about the project, including a sample of charities (in addition to the "charity of the week") and types of badges users can win. This will provide some extrinsic motivation and legitimacy. If users can recognize charities from the beginning, they'll be more likely to use the site.
Adding on to point 3, The sub-menu, which has excellent information about the site and the project, is hidden from the frontpage. Most users will not go deeper into a site without reason, so I'd consider moving this info/the links to the frontpage. Mint is a good example of a successful online project that places important information on the frontpage without bogging the user down in details. A slideshow or asix small boxes might work well for your concept.
I really like your use of style and colour for the frontpage, but the sub-pages tend to look a little more dated and web 2.0-ish. Keeping a straight line, clean look would really help here too (e.g. swap the rounded header backgrounds for a nice font).
I hope this helps!
Cheers, Serina
I like the neat approach on the initial pages backed by simplicity. Somehow in the inner pages the glossy effect is not gelling with the overall theme of the design.
loved everything in this work .. but i think it just lacks a small twist or originality .. but maybe the client wouldn't accept more creativity .. anyways lovely work :D
I know this is probably to late but if your target is Females then I don't think the blue is the good color and in fact the blue is not good for a donation website.
blue is more professional and a cold color, when it comes to charity and good deeds you need warm colors.
the website looks like it's not finished, you have some white space that is not used properly.
I know this is for the home page redesign, but the rest of your screens have the same problem with the white space and the elements are not align properly, you could consider using a grid system or create your one.
I like it
Include a "Make this my homepage" link on the home page that's browser specific - you already know which browser I'm using! I'm not sure the blue speaks to your target audience.
I agree with others, the big white space on the homepage makes it look unfinished.
I love the 'feedback' thing on the left and will be adding one to my own site!
The "Current acts of Kindness" page isn't clear to me. Are these ones I can choose from or ones that have other users have already done?
I am looking to read more about the concept at the frontpage but that is obviously not an option.
I really like your layout and design.
