I don't get an immediate knowledge of what they do. Beautiful whitespace, and great imagery for engagement!
I'm guessing this is a bridal shop, right? The main picture is giving me wedding vibes. I visited the site, though, and it seems this is a photography company. The main page needs to give some better idea of that. The pictures are gorgeous, but overall, the theme doesn't conjure up that this is a photo studio. Maybe include some wording on the photos or include another tagline which lists your services. Just going off the photo here, it gives off a different theme.
Thanks for the comment Maurice. Yes they are a photography studio, although they specialise in wedding photography, which is why the wedding-related photos tend to overtake the website's photography content.
I've been thinking about the layout helping the user identify that this is in fact a photography studio's portfolio, but i haven't yet found a way to incorporate that message in a bolder way without compromising the simplicity of the design.
Oh well, more thinking and experimenting for me, i'm sure i'll make it work somehow!
The layout seems off. I agree with those that have mentioned the logo should be on the top left. Studies show that the average internet user looks at the left side of a site and a lot of the times totally misses what is on the right. I viewed the actual site and on some of the pages the division you have in your layout doesn't work. I would take out the decorative divider and maybe use a little different color of shade behind the text on one side.
I actually flipped the logo and the menu bar around, it seems to indeed work better with the design and the user's eye is easily guided to the studio's logo.
Thanks for the input Syneace!
Outstanding portfolio with great color combination and design. Keep it up
its clean and simple i feel it
The site looks really great but the only draw back is that I can't work out if it's for wedding dresses or a photographer!
Maybe this wouldn't be a problem if I knew Greek, but it may be something to consider.
fyi there is a drop down to change it to English at the bottom!
But this brings up a good point, it is slightly unclear what it is right away. I see photographer for the most part but it is a little vague.
I love it. My favorite part is the drop-"up" navigation. It makes it more unique. Great job!
I like... Very balanced interface, clean lines, big images, a brave confident design
I don't like the styling on the language dropdown box, the lack of clarity as to what the business do, the script font and colour in the logo, I would be tempted to keep it sans serif and black on white, let the pictures do the talking.
Thanks Dave, i agree with you on most of the above. I plan on reviewing some elements in the near future for the client's site some of them will be exactly what you mentioned.
Hey,
great 1-st minimalistic design. The simplicity is allover this site.
Regards, MEster.
Overall nice work.
However, I think the photo draws so much attention that the rest gets lost. I would put the logo on the picture so it balances the attention between the photo and the company that made the photo.
Hope its designed to be a simple website. But its so simple.
Only suggestion can have graphics element on the photo in the middle.
Yeah it's designed to be a simple website, the client wanted specific things, asked me for a clean design with as few elements on the user's screen as possible. Thanks for the comment!
websites look good.. but why you didn't put any flash animated gallery on homepage.. try it . it will change the look of your site surely.. take care
Hey Kunal, Flash wasn't an option from the beginning since the client didn't want a Flash website by choice.
Simple, yet effective. Absolutely love the eye catching image. I think the menu needs a bit of work though.
This site has a great image to catch your eye but I don't know anything about the website. Also your logo is kind of overshadowed. I would look for ways to improve your brand presence while keeping it simple. You might also look at providing a headline with a call to action.
I really like the design, and they certainly have a lot of quality photos to choose from. Here would be my suggestions:
I would make the third level navigation start high enough that it does not overlap onto the main image.
There seem to be inconsistencies in the spelling of their name. The logo has a K with no period but the footer has a period. Throughout the text, sometimes the K has a period and other times it does not.
I happened to end on the portfolio page, and would suggest removing the second image down. The man and women do not look happy. I would consider moving the screen shot you show on this review as the default image.
On the portfolio page and other places where it is used, I would replace the plus and minus symbols used to move the gallery with something more traditional like bold arrows.
I would make the products and services page actually display their products. Then make the button that opens the PDF indicate what it actually is. Right now I feel like I should be going to a shopping cart. Perhaps "Download PDF of our Services" when clicked have it open in a new window.
The news page feels a little cluttered, perhaps some more spacing between the two columns or less artistic graphics.
Overall I like the design, and would certainly select them as a photographer for my wedding.
Great detailed comments Shane, much appreciated. The products page is something like a filler at the moment, since the client wanted it up as soon as possible, but the idea is to actually have the section display their services and products. Thanks again!
Very nice clean minimul design, exactly what is needed for a photogrphy website, the photos should be the showcase and you got that nailed.
That being said, i would of hade the logo and menu the other way around, logo should always be top left.
Also the language choice i would make more visible, probably put that at the top of the website.
Other than that, good work.
Thanks for the comment Alan, both things you mentioned are on my mind the last few days about the design, but reading an outside opinion really makes things clearer! You are right about the language selector not being that accessible at the moment, it's one of the things i prioritized to change asap.
You are right Danelle, i'll keep working on that. Thanks for reviewing!
