size of a tags to be same size as rest of copy

    Hi Julia,

I really like the feel and functionality of your site. It feels friendly, clean, modern and interesting and holds it own amongst the myriads of indetikit sites. The only things I'd highlight as areas to look at are...

    1. The links or a tags are small and different colour - I'm viewing on a mac on Mac OSX and they're really tiny. I'd prefer them to be in same size and just to be highlighted that they're actionable by being pink.

    2. Your e-mail contact isn't linking to an e-mail address at the moment.

Overall though nice concept - like the full scale background image and use of Courier for a change.

Gosh that was quick and looks much better on my browser now - they were looking about 7px on my Mac.

Now if I get really picky would be nice if the client page links could open up in new browser windows but you may prefer them opening in the same window - it's not really so much a design issue anyway. Can't wait to see what other people think of your site too.

      All the best, Emma

    Not much

    Julia:

I like your site. It looks great! The only thing I can see a problem with is the footer. When you are in the portfolio section, some of the work makes the copyright info difficult to read and I see it as a mistake (1024 x 768 res). Just a minor thought.

    Order - But Really Great

Posted on Apr 29, 2010 at 8:44 AM

    Hi

I have taken a look and your work is fantastic so I don't know if I am really authorised to review.

However the only thing I would say is that your work is so good why do you not have it on the page from the start?

Even a little bit just as a taste of your portfolio to get the client to want to see more rather than making them click without seeing the possibilities of how good your work is.

Sell your work from the start is all I would do and maybe a contact form. It may not get used as client will mostly email or call direct but in my eyes it would look like you have made more effort to get that contact.

But all in all a great site

    Cheers

    Kieran

Hi Kieran, Thanks for your great review - so happy everyones likes it! :)

I have thought long and hard about whether to put the work on the frontpage but have decided against it, simply to make it more personal and engaging for visitors.

However, I have also been wondering whether to add a contact form and after your review I will most likely do that!

      Thanks Julia

    Front Page

Posted on Apr 29, 2010 at 3:10 PM

Julie, sorry to say this, but I look at your front page, and I just wonder what the image to the right is? At first I thought a snake skin, then some sort of lingerie, and finally a velvet table cover. Not sure how its helping. If its something you designed or did on your own, a brief explanation might help out. Past work looks great.

      Hi, thanks for your review.

I'm happy to explain. Background is a photo of lace I've taken that was my inspiration for the entire site.

I love lace and interesting backgrounds and since the site is about me and my work I wanted to add some interesting texture and depth to the site that gives it some character.

    is a bit bleak

Posted on Apr 29, 2010 at 6:59 PM

I like the typeface but wonder about the snakeskin - not sure why it is included or what it has to do with your skill.

Could you include some more clues about what you do. It is all very mysterious at the moment - perhaps add some examples of your work.

Hi Harry, the background is a photo of lace I've taken to give the site texture. There's a whole work section with examples of my work?

    Font problem

Posted on Apr 28, 2010 at 9:50 AM

My2cents: The typewriter-based font used on the site lead me at first that you were a graphic designer, photographre or illustrator at first. Maybe a more modern sans-serif font could do the trick for you.
