I like the colours, I like the natural feel of them, and I like the way you have carefully chosen the orange elements to stand out on this background.
I also think the laptop slide show works well for this design, but must agree with Julia in that the arrows should hide until you hover over it.
There are, though, a few things that I do think need to be changed. The yellow icons really don't work. They just seem cheap and don't fit in with the rest of the design at all.
Also, I think that you should have a small amount more padding under the "drop me a line" etc etc as the form seems a little close the the box below that contain the copyright notice.
The final thing I don't like about it is the choice of the font for the titles etc. . personal I find that this choice can be quite hard to read, I would choose something that is a little more spaced, a little easier to read.
Hope that helps, I will feed you back on any revisions.
Dan.
Hi there,
I actually like the colours you've chosen on the background as they're quiet and neutral and allow the orange and the yellow to combine nicely - orange can also work really well with a pale blue and I notice you have some pale blue in the footer.
I also like the spacing around the laptop at the top - if it was full width it would be hard to get it to work nicely with the logo in the top left.
My only thing would be to maybe create a bit more depth on the background to add a bit of interest
Ill have to play around with the laptop. Initaially the arrows were aligned with the columns below. The lack of depth has also been bothering me, Any ideas? Im all ears.
Thanks
It's hard to add the depth without losing the simplicity and subtlety of the design. Maybe it's a case of some slight noise in photoshop on the background to add texture - you already have some nice shadows lifting certain elements off the background and the lighter glow behind the laptop is nice - maybe it's a case of making this just a little less subtle. Would be nice to see an actual mock up of the site full size in browser window as that may make a difference - the concepts on here always lack certain impact due to the size they come up as.
Hi Nathan,
it looks like you registered with an email address that has a typo in it and another Nathan contacted Concept Feedback and told us that he's getting your reviews and emails. :)
He will probably get this review email, too, but I thought this would be the easiest way to reach you. Go to your account and change your email / username to your correct email address.
Thanks, Aurimas
Hi Nathan,
I think you're close but I'm not sure I like your colour choices.
Your layout is good but the width of the slide show is disproportionate to the rest of the site - I'd fix that , ie. make the laptop bigger, hide the arrows (if it's sliding you don't need them, show them on rollover).
Then the yellow, brown orange mix... the colour combination doesn't work for me. It's not looking very fresh and exciting but a bit dull. I'd go for more upbeat colours and less of them.
I like your footer set up - the twitter icon is a bit too big and prominent in comparison to your text and headers which I'm guessing should be standing out more.
Hope this helps!
Thanks Julia
Thanks Julia,
Just to clarify: Make the laptop the same width as the 2 columns below? I agree with the "dull" thing, Im having some trouble with the colours. Ill look at the twitter icon.
Thanks Julia
Yes, I would try to make the laptop as wide as the columns below or if you're still trying to keep it indented by the logo at least wider.
I think its a decent web design. You could also play with the beige-brown colors by adding a little more orange to them. Other than that, its a nice clean design.
Thankyou for your kind comments Neal. I think you may be aright about the headings and nav.
The icons bugged me from the start, Ill have to rethink them. Ill revise the padding on the footer. Also I think the font is booted!. Cheers.
