change the flame so it looks less like a person

Posted on Apr 22, 2010 at 5:38 PM

the image looks more like a wicker-man than a cross on fire: the center flame looks like a human torso

burning crosses are a KKK symbol: very evocative and powerful

maybe put the flame above the cross

    Don't make the cross burn

Posted on Apr 22, 2010 at 5:45 PM

Burning crosses have a negative connotation. You should probably make it so the cross doesn't look burned. I understand the flame can represent the youth being "on fire" for Christ or that it is the Holy Spirit, but the cross itself shouldn't be burning. Maybe make it out of something that can't burn.

By the way, the logo looks very much like the United Methodist Church logo.

    Keep it Simple

Posted on Apr 22, 2010 at 8:09 PM

The image/pattern in the cross/flame overlay isn't working. Keep it simple and iconic. Don't try to get to real. I also would have the cross completely over the flame, not the transparent and patter change.

Not too keen on the font. I think it would look better if "student ministries" was in a more standard, clean font. Keep the "ignite" as is.

I like the effect on the cross but this looks KKK to me. I understand that it is hard to mix fire and a cross and still give a "holly" sense to it. I'm trying to think of something but I can't. Could you replace the flame with a bright light instead, you don't have to ignite fire, but it could be "ignite the light inside you" or something.

    The flame

Posted on Apr 22, 2010 at 11:00 PM

I love the concept of this logo! The cross I REALLY like. The flame though I'm just not buying into. I'm not much of a graphics designer, but it just looks fake.

Overall I do like it, so keep up the good work!

    be simple

Posted on Apr 22, 2010 at 11:01 PM

a logo may not be has much color. make it very simple that a layman can understand it. don't make it 3d also. just make plain 2d image without the shaddow, or if it has a shaddow, make sure it represents well. G'luck!

    Simplify

Posted on Apr 23, 2010 at 1:51 AM

As said above, simplify the logo. It' a good idea and if you work on, it can be very well. Also i'll try to put the tag line after the "g" - right side - always in the bottom of type and a little smaller in size.

    burning crucifix!

Posted on Apr 23, 2010 at 3:36 AM

    Hi,

Is a burning crucifix really the simple you want to use?

Not a fan of the font, think using something a little less stylised would work better.

I would try and think of a better way to join the Cross and theme ignite. Maybe a stick of dynamite with a Cross printed on it.. or maybe not!

Very bad icon... And the font doesn't help much.

apart from the obvious klan connection

Posted on Apr 26, 2010 at 4:08 PM

the image is just wrong- kkk, looks like a burning person, too detailed and could be executed better.

but i think you should start with choosing a better font. the one you chose seems to me very wrong- it's techy/thechno & modern- not the first ideas that comes to my mind when thinking about a Youth Ministry with a Christian affiliation... (which the cross implies)

try playing with more traditional serif/goth fonts. i think it'll make more sense and will lead the design to a better place.

    Get rid of the flame

it is a nice logo but I would get rid of the flame. IT seems a bit horrific.

    Separate the Cross and Flame

Posted on Feb 20, 2011 at 8:42 PM

I can see the symbolism that you may be trying to use, but I think it can be too easily misinterpreted (as others have mentioned). Perhaps the cross can be one design element and the flame another. They do not have to be combined.

There seem to be some conflicting styles. The font is very modern, while the cross looks rough and grungy. I think you should choose one style and go with that, making all elements feel like they belong together.
