I very much like this design. I think it's very attractive, and speaks to your target audience very well. It looks as though it will be a useful tool for cataloging wine collections.
I also am fond of the string detail. I think that's a nice touch. There are several details, however, that I would work on. First, your 3D background seems to cut off at about half-page. I would recommend either extending it so that it can go all the way down, or perhaps fading it out at the bottom so that it sort of dissolves into the darker color as you do with the flat background on the second image.
Additionally, It looks like your grid may be off a bit. That's something you'll want to pay close attention to moving forward. Nothing is so frustrating as an out-of-alignment grid.
Further, with regard to the backgrounds for the wine bottles, considering that you're trying to evoke sort of a notebook feel, I think the "glossy" backgrounds seem a bit incongruous. That could, perhaps, be remedied with some details at the corners to make them look like photos that were affixed to the page. Or, you could drop the individual backgrounds for each grid area, and replace them with a set of hand-drawn lines, perhaps? Give each entry that same hand-entered feel that you're trying to evoke with the handwriting typefaces, etc.
Finally, I'm not sold on the drop-down menus. I think, again, you could make them feel a little bit more hand-drawn. As it stands, some of these elements feel a bit too "Web 2.0" in a concept that is trying for a different feeling.
Nice work so far. Good luck!
P.S. I'd like to see the list view as well...
I really, really like this design! It looks very professional and in general is very connected to the product you're trying to sell. I am also a big fan of the 3-D background effect; that's really cool and gives the site a unique look.
My main issue is with the color scheme. You've got three very bright colors at work here; I'm guessing you don't have any control over the purple but the red and yellow-green seem slightly at odds with each other. The call-to-action effect of the green button is good but I'd recommend using a different color that falls in more with the earth-tones you've got going on everywhere else. Also -- the red in the logo and in the tabs are slightly different which feels a little off-balance to me.
I'd also suggest that you let the 3-D background fade out rather than have it do a separate 3-D effect halfway down the page; the top effect is enough to give the 3-D impression and a fade-out won't look quite so jarring.
These are somewhat nitpicky, though; in general, I definitely like the effects you've got going on. Good work!
Looks good! A few things I would change:
Thank you for your review!
This is a gorgeous design. I love the subtle details, like the string on the border of the column. If this is the home page I think you need some sort of explanation of what the site is all about, other then that, fantastic start!
Thank you very much for this review!
I will work on the hole design, pushing the hole design-concept a bit further - but i will keep this style. The page shown above is the website, after a user has logged in. I will use some boxes, with informations for completely new users, which can be removed after reading. This will help the new users to navigate through the functions.
Best regards, Julian
p.s.: Sorry for the late reply...
Thank you very much for your review!
I will work on these aspects you mentioned - i will go more into the "notebook"-design.
I will post the new draft, as soon as possible to hear your opinion. There will be also the list-view;)
