    Needs to be improved

Posted on Apr 09, 2010 at 5:57 PM

    Hello Sahus,

Unfortunately this is not working form me. I can't see you put any effort to do this, too easy... some font with a gradient some really predictible icon, I'd suggest you try to find a stronger concept.

If you still want to keep this idea, please read below some guidelines:

    1. Uppercase: I think all text in uppercase is not a good idea, it makes the logo really though and even more with that sharp angles font you used. Try different alternatives with some other font and some lowercase.

    2. You need to make this more compact, now it is just too spread away, too many blank space on most of them and the one you put the HIVE below needs more padding and a better alignment, now looks odd.

    3. The one with the darker background looks good, the contrast is good but you need to fix the colours when using lighter backgrounds.

    4. The hive icon (seriously?) Why don't you try to incorporate it to the text instead of having it floating you don't know where?? This will improve your concept aswell.

I hope I wasn't so harsh, but you need to work much harder on this.

    Sahus

I totally agree with Ezequiel, this is not that original.

I have had a play with a different font and made it lower case and interacted the logo with the font, below is my take on it…

I think you need to have a bit of fun with this, and think outside the square…

    Good luck

      Aaran,

Thank you so much for the feedback. Yes I agree the concepts I have come up are too corporate & boring. I love you idea and think it works well. Funnily enough I was using the same/similar font as above in my font selection process so what I may do is step back and actually try different fonts and get some feedback before I start an actual concept of design

      Cheers, Sahus

    Hey Sahus.

The gradient on such a thing, sharp typeface just doesn't work. It becomes extremely hard to read.

I don't mind having a elongated version as long as you have a lockup that is also more compact. A logo will have many different ways it's used and sometimes will not work in certain settings if too long.

Play around with using the "hive combs" as letters within the text as well.

      Hi Jared,

Thanks for the feedback. I think the resounding feedback is to add the logo shape to the font type & lose the gradient.

I will try some different concepts. Cheers, Sahus

    Interesting concept

Posted on Apr 12, 2010 at 8:32 PM

I like the 6th concept. Try putting "interactive" directly on top of "HIVE" and increase the size of the hive imagery. This definitely has some legs though, keeping moving in this direction.

      Hi Nate,

Thanks for the feedback its much appreciated. From the above comments I was proposing scraping the logo completely but now with your comments I'm not so sure. When you mean "try putting "interactive" directly on top of "HIVE" do you mean to try and combine the two words into one so the "ive" at the end of both words is as one???

Could you explain a little more what you meant? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Sahus

No, just talking about stacking the two words on top of each other...make sense?

These are better, but still not there. I think you need to try some more versions where you stack the two words. I don't like the versions where you use the honeycombs as the V. The 9th concept is an interesting version, but still not quite working.

i think you should combine the words, if you can change the name.. might help your SEO and maybe try using different bee imagery... the honey comb might bee :) too cliché.

      Hi Miranda,

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately we cannot change the company name. I did try and combine the words which I will upload shortly with some new concepts.

i love the dotted line and the bee. however i am so sick of the font museo i could throw up. i like the thinner font you've got there in all caps- probably a dumb question, but what font is that? you only pushed the non honeycomb direction once tho-- what other bee references can you think of? it really is too bad you cant call it interacthive.. i think you're making great progress :)

      Hi Miranda,

I must admit i'm struggling to come up with any other concepts.

I downloaded the font sometime ago from http://www.dafont.com or http://www.myfonts.com. Under my font book settings in Mac OSX is shows as "ETH" thats all I know :(

Regarding "Museo".... yes I agree with you. Well over used but then again it is a great font ;)

      Cheer, Sahus

Make the logo look like it's one unit

Posted on Apr 19, 2010 at 2:12 PM

    Sahus:

I like the clean look you've got, but I think you need to consider some other things.

My suggestion? Scrap it and start over - from the BEGINNING of the design process. The honeycomb is cool, but it has been done and done and done. In fact, it has been so overused, that amateur designers use it as a design element even if it doesn't fit with their design. I admit, it looks cool, but use it sparingly. The first thing that came to my mind was an iconic bee in the center of a hexagon. That would give you a fresh visual element and maybe get your juices going. However, start with the brainstorming part - word association.

Bee, honey, comb, wings, insect, stinger, sweet, droplet, swarm, netting, pollen...

Fill a few pages with this and see what you get. Then you can start pulling some imagery from your lists.

As far as your color, I think you've got the right idea, but be wary of losing the yellow against white backgrounds. You may want to consider a black stroke for certain things. Personally, I think the orange at the bottom of your gradient will go better. It will stand out more and gives the logo a richer "taste."

    Hope this helps.
