Hey, I'm new here, in fact this is my first review :). I must say your design is catchy and I like it a lot.
What I don't like:
The lack of consistency of the second level menu between the about and services page. I would have kept one version of the menu for both pages.
The second level menu does not highlight the current page. This is a no-no. It's easily achievable via css.
The JavaScript pop-up validation of the contact form. Try to make that more friendly by implementing in-page validation above or below the box highlighting the required but not filled fields.
Congrats on the HTML validation. Lots of people out-there don't bother, nevertheless try also to make your CSS validate.
PS: Are you sure you want to grey out all the logos on the clients page? It's just makes a big contrast.
I love this design, especially the earthy colours! Everything is spot on, but it would look 100% if the colums were spaced vertically so that the bottom of the content on each column aligned. Maybe I'm just too OCD! lol. Good stuff though.
Excellent work, i like it. Font on top is great!
I like it. I went to the site and everything looks great! Good job on this one.
Very well done!
I will mention some nitpicky things if you want to continue to tweak this.
As I work my way to the bottom of the page, I think there is a little bit much playing around with the horizontal rhythm. I do love the interplay between the featured content right beneath the headline and the three columns beneath that. Even though the following two footer rows aren't offensive in any way, I don't get the same sense of unity and relationship to the whole.
I also think you could simplify the content down there. The repetition of the phone number would be the first place I would look.
The beige background texture could be toned down just a hair to decrease the contrast or bumpiness.
On a side note, I like inner content pages even more than the home page.
I reviewed this on unmatchedstyle.com a while back, so this is the review.
First impressions when I arrive on this site are good, so half the battle is won already! I am staying for a look around, definitely the sign of effective design. A warm and appealing colour palette combined with a strong & consistent typographic style with some image replacement goodness making use of a visual hierarchy drawing the eye slowly down the content works well. I like the use of flash on the homepage strapeline, and the fact that the others are static indicates a good balance between drawing the eye and usablity/accessibility issues. Very clear navigation bar at the top. I particularly like the strong services sub menu which focuses on what this company offer. Might be nice to have clearer indication of where I am on the site though, some visual persistent navigation clues within the services section or titles might help. They have made use of breadcrumbs but only in the portfolio? Which brings me nicely to the portfolio layout which is excellent, it is a triumph and the use of the computer monitor while not original has been done well. The information is very scanable.
The footer offers easy to see calls to action and there is an obvious tie in between header and footer marrying the whole page together. The white swirls contrast beautifully with the well balanced grid layout. I like the icons with the faint shadow, who said drop shadow is dead!
Weaknesses: Although the review is about design, design is about usability and a poor implementation of wordpress as the blogging platform can impact negatively on this. A rewrite module is a must for friendly URL’s .Weak design of sidebar in blog section when compared to all other aspects of design on the site makes me think it was a bit of an after-thought. Site built with DW templates (sorry I’m a handcoder and a snob! lol)
The first thing which stood out to me are your color choices. I really love the teal/yellow combination, and the light texture brings them out even more. When I hovered over the images for the first time I thought "Ooh, spiffy!". The hover effect on the images in the call to action element adds a sense of variety to it, without being to obtrusive.
You did a great job of grouping each different section of information, but the 3 column horizontal pattern gets a bit monotonous by the bottom. I think if it was different in the section above the footer it would look less repetitive.
I love the use of icons and how the logo is repeated in the footer.
Overall, good job. :)
I 100% agree. Every division of the page has 3 columns. It would help if one section had 2 columns, or maybe a picture is taking up two thirds of the horizontal space.
You could also take the information that is just above the footer ("From our Blog ", "Request a Quote " and "Free Speech") line those up vertically on the right hand side where the "clients you have worked with" currently is. Then take the clients you have currently worked with and line those up horizontally along the bottom above the footer. This might break up the space a little more.
Break up the page a little more and I think it will help a lot. Overall looks great.
great use of text hierarchy.
Nice layout, awesome colours, difficult to see how the background works without seeing the footer.
Yeah I know, realised I'd cut the graphic off after I uploaded it. Check the site out: www.energycell.co.uk
Excellent design - very easy to look at, very engaging. LOVE the bold large headline.
I think it looks really good. I do think however the underline of the menu would be better if it was different shades of teal rather than earthy greens. It seems you used the shade of yellow in various places but different shades of green..
Great for me
Just one thing ... you say " An agency that makes all the difference "
The second line should give a clue to visitors ... " Why? ".
It's not just about saying we are different ... it's why.
Keep up the good work, Pedro
i like navigation with bottom line
I love a lot about this design- the colors, the texture in the background... everything works for me, I just wish the elements were aligned more closely to a grid. My eye wants the 3 columns to be either the same width, or have the left one substantially wider than the other two, and then stick to that alignment for the other elements of the site.
I really like the icon for the logo. Here again, I would line up the tag line to be the same width as "theenergycell".
Overall, very nice work!
Nice design / layout. Well managed navigation Good color combinations Clear and simple
Love the colors, very nice use of space, really clear. I like it very much
Everything is really nice, I like it. Good job. I would advice only to refine submenu bar. It looks unfinished.
The icons don't seem to gel for me. Great looking site though!
Hi,
very nice design, very readable and colorful. I just don't like the cloud effect on inside pages because there's no border, but it's nice in the home page.
Bye
The portion that interests me most is the samples. Have samples immediately. I can't make out what that test in the middle section says.
Graphic design case study and More about this web site LINKS on the live site are not at their place. The icons are to big.The graphic at the top is nice.I would let go the thick line at the top.
I like it a lot. Specially the colors.
I think the redesign is good in terms of usability. We can find quickly what's important for someone interested in your services: references, get a quote, services and contact. I just don't like the colour choice but that's only my opinion. This isn't the kind of colours you expect for a marketing agency. If you show the site to someone who doesn't know what activity you do, they would never think you're a B2B service company.
Love the overall color scheme and the balance between texture and flat color.
Possibly the only improvement that I would suggest would be to add engaging calls to action... Like rather than "Web design case study", try "View case study" and place graphical emphasis on these- Button graphics or some kind of arrow chip to encourage interaction.
Thanks for the comments.
Thanks again.
