The software from just the cover as a consumer doesn't tell me much about the software. I especially wouldn't choose this product for backup based on looks, although I shop through reviews so looks don't matter. I think if you could add some more detail to the cover to illustrate what your product does more would be great. I think you definitely have a subtle cover, and I like the branding scheme it goes with, but I just think you could go with more detail.
Really like the first concept ! :) the yellow and silver combination gives a extra punch to the package.
As my review says, it would be fine if you move down the main text, so you can have more horizontal space to get more attention to it.
I like #1 better...better color contrast, and stands out more. Also easier to read text on plain black background. Only thing I would change is the diamond to a circle because you're talking about DVDs, which are typically circles.
Hi, thanks for your comment Elly, but as I explained above, this is a concept fort he pack and not the logo. The logo was given and I can't change it.
oh whoops sorry :(
In that case, love #1. Also agree with the others about moving the logo down a little. It looks a little crunched at the top.
Maybe only add picture to facial side on black background. Now it is empty
Hello Kirill! Thanks for the review. What side do you think is empty? frontside or rearside?
I would reduce the glow slightly around the DVD Ranger but other than that it looks great.
Because: it has the disks in it. The 2nd one looks good, but it could be a package for anything.
Hello, Miro. Thanks for the review! Isn't 2nd version more stylish and minimalistic as new softwares boxes? Isn't the tagline enough to tell what the product does?
Looking forward to see your feedback!
Hello, Ezequiel! At first I have to remind you that I am not a package designer, I just sit next to an excellent package designer at work and see what he does. And what I´ve learned from that is that every element of the package must have an explanation, in color of form or etc. That is why I prefer "the disks" over the black box. But what if the lines in the black box would have round forms in them? To act (also) as the form of disks?
...I want to add... that of course this goes to all graphics design but when he does packages there is absolutely no extra elements that couldn´t be explained. Just pure symbolism through forms, colors and typefaces. Not a single element more. And I can´t see that in the black box.
for a software product I like better the 2nd idea but the glow is too much. It's like a windows vista/7 themed box which makes it more attractive. I think you are really a great designer and very creative.
Hello, Marq. Thanks for your review, probably you are right toning down the glow. I will try that.
These are both truly fantastic work, very well done. I think I like the second version the best as it seems to stand off the shelf more from the rest of the software. My only thought is that when reading the name it's not very clear what the software is for. I might make the tagline larger so people instantly know this is back up software...somehow find a way to make that clear with the first look.
Hello Nate! Thanks a lot, glad you like it. I will try to convince the client to resize the tagline, he doesn't want me to change his logo but I will let him know about your comments. Thanks again!
I think both concepts are good, but I like the first a little more. The Yellow spine with curve on the front, back, and top make this look real sharp. I'd just move the title down a few inches so it sits at the bottom of the 1st third of the page. You may also want to scale it down just a little to give more breathing room on either side. I also think you could move the pix byte logo up a tad. The content organization on the back is great, but I don't think the bar code should be placed over the curve. Left align it with the rest of the text. Great work!
Hello Andy. Seems like I'll have to move it down, many people commented the same. Thank you!
Very strong concept, i like the #2.
What i miss on the frontpage is that it is a software-product, i thought it is a hardware drive.
Thanks for you comment, Andy. I just want to keep the design as minimalistic as possible. If you search the web for software boxes, the one you probably like you the best are stylish and clean. I think the tagline just do well to explain what is all about, too much stuff will make it crowded and also will make the product look cheap.
