    The girl

Posted on Mar 25, 2010 at 10:13 AM

I'm a a 23 year old female. The most likely client of this site. It doesnt matter that all these men keep saying "shes so hott". Your clients aren't going to look at the site and say "wow she's hott, I should go get a haircut".

This is my opinion as a fashionista and a young female in her 20-somethings...This girl doesnt work. She looks like she's wearing a bikini because you can see those straps under her shirt and her hair is a mess. She's totally at the beach right now. When you spend 100 bucks on your hair, the LAST place you go is to the beach where there's wind.

AvantGarde hair needs to be cutting edge and modern. It needs to challenge things. Wavy long locks are not avantgarde. The picture Ezequiel posted is pretty good. You want someone with an edgy hair cut and vibrant color. Not someone smiling in the wind. Most likely the model you want shouldnt be smiling at all. She should be couture and high-fashion. check out fotolia.com for some better images. They tend to have some high-fashion shots.

I think the rest of the page is good. And switching the model will do wonders for the whole presentation.

Hi Tiffany! Thank you for the comments, you are very right about what is a "AvantGarde" hair, and so is Ezequiel. However the client was happy with this more of a "girl from the neighbor" type model, as the city we live in is quite small and he does not want to scare any customers away by showing a top fashion model type girl. But he is reading these reviews also, may be that he thinks this again after reading your comments.

      Thanks again!

    It's getting there…

Posted on Mar 25, 2010 at 2:58 PM

    Miro

It's getting there, and the girl is ok, but I reckon if the girl was a vector illustration, it would give the site more of a cutting edge feel (if you get my drift)...

I agree with Tiffany, who cares if the chick is hot, that's not gonna make me get my haircut... something different will make me want to divulger into the site deeper though, you need o have a point of difference.

    Good Luck!

Hi, and thank you for the comments. Actually...the girl is not there because she is hot, I think she was chosen because she is close to their target group, average customer I mean. But as so many have commented about it, maybe the girl picture needs still some work.

Posted on Mar 26, 2010 at 3:30 PM

Think about this page without the main image. What I feel is you still have scope to add more details and design elements to the page. Specially on the logo / name area.. It currently looks lost

Thanks for the review, Aneesh. I think I´ll let it be for a couple of days and then try to further design it. Good points you´ve made.

    the girl

Posted on Mar 27, 2010 at 12:33 AM

The concept is nice but I look at the site and I don't think of a hair salon - the focus should be on the hair. Avantgarde means innovative. Look at some sites of high end hair salons and you'll get some inspiration. I think multiple head shots of different 'avantgarde' hair styles would work better. Don't focus on the 'cuteness' of the girl - you want to sell the viewer on the cutting edge hair styles

Posted on Mar 30, 2010 at 5:49 AM

This is very nicely done. Just that the face of the girl looks a little plastic when all u have in the bg is so pure and natural with all those sprays and greens and butterflies. I see it again I think it's the eyebrows. but overall very good design.

    Better...

Posted on Mar 25, 2010 at 6:38 AM

    Hello Miro,

This girl is so much better than previous one, she's really cute! But somehow, too common aswell, and I think she didn't go to any hairdresser that day.

Your design is really cool and really avant garde, I think the lady should reflect the same way.

Please take a look to attachment, this girl shows some mistery and I think that will fit much better. Probably with a better hairstyle too.

Anyways, I hope you find my comment helpful.

Oh WOW !!! Look at the ratings !!!

Yes, your comment is helpful. However we are at this time stuck with istockphoto images and this was the one that client liked most. Maybe in the future we can shoot our own models. The girl is a bit common, I agree. (I had to add one tooth to her mouth :-D )

    It's a good start

Posted on Mar 25, 2010 at 7:33 AM

I think this is a good start, but I think much of this feedback is going to have to be held back until we see how it functions. The content area looks a little small and unimportant. Try to incorporate the content area to make it look like it's a major part of the design. Lastly, I would move your logo above your navigation.

This haircut is hardly Avantgarde :)

Posted on Mar 25, 2010 at 8:28 AM

I don't mind that much if she is a Playboy common style beauty but I would really try to find on other stock photo websites a more edgy haircut (like the one posted by Ezequiel)

Hi Michael, we were talking about the model with the client and he was happy with this "girl from the neighbor". The reason is, that he doesn´t want to scare any customers away with too fashion-model-haircut. We live in a quite small town, not New York actually...

Not sure what this site is for...

Posted on Mar 25, 2010 at 10:01 AM

.. however having said that I love a picture of a hot girl. One small issue. Her eye brows are painted on. I do not like this look as it makes the girl too fake. There is a great theory on robotic design that when the robot gets so close to life like people detest it. And so it is when girls do these strange things to their lips, eye brows, boobs, ass, and facial surgery. Just look at Courtney Cox, she is a mess. Your girl has a fresh causal look that matches the urban graphics. Make the site speak to what it is about, maybe the text in the pink does that. Not sure can only read English. Nice use of negative space to the left. You might want to get that spray paint area to feel like there is more depth going back into the space.

    Innovative

Posted on Apr 03, 2010 at 12:45 AM

The design is very innovative - i can see here is someone thinking for himself...

Two things: the logo on the left is placed under the menu, i think its to near and the copytext with the pink background looks good but draws to much attention.
