    unaligned objects

Posted on Mar 22, 2010 at 4:57 PM

not really sure what the mass of unaligned objects are? The look very messy not 'cool messy'.

The double use of search so close to each other doesnt look right.

I like the logo, but the rest of the site needs some serious work to it, keep working on it.

Thanks for the input Joe, agreed about the search and I appreciate the comments about the object alignment

    Color scheme

Posted on Mar 22, 2010 at 11:52 PM

The dark gray and yellow don't work for me.

Couldn't load website but the search page looks a bit scrambled and doesn't look like you can navigate around too easily.

You have there interesting parts like scheme and i like logo but play a little bit more with colors, content placement and other parts of work.

Much better variance to improve is to look at other concepts of this site compare it with yours and take some ideas maybe or get inspiration.

    Needs grid or equivalent

Posted on Mar 23, 2010 at 8:34 AM

The parts are here but large proportional problems and alignment are obvious. Looks rushed and to concerned with gizmos.

I use grid fox (Firefox extension) and wireframe on paper(Ive used excel, publisher and Indesign as well as PS to wireframe in the past)paper wireframes work for me best print up your screen shots buy some tape at the dollar store and snip and stick till it makes sense .

Ultimately forget the gizmo 's for initial architecture just get it to look right job 1 anyway it worx for you . I used to spend a lot of time concerned about how to get started then I worked with some pretty confident people who used some of these ways to get it right.

-Used markers on the window -cut out paper and paste -Made excel shapes and shuffled -used pen and paper sketches ruff at first then drew them out like a draftsmen on paper.

Methinks this process was skipped here?

Great tips Robert! Thanks! Proportions are a big part of design that we did not spend much time with -- we'll get back to work on this.

    Confusing

Posted on Mar 23, 2010 at 11:32 AM

It is so confusing. I checked it online and it's even worse. Your bounce rate will be rocketing and conversions will be on the floor.

    Sorry mate :(

Thanks Michael, I definitely think you're right on with the confusion, especially for new users

Kyle, at you stage there are no other users but New users

    Everything

Posted on Mar 23, 2010 at 6:21 PM

The concept is good. I can't really attest to its originality though. I'm almost certain that I've heard of something either like this or with the exact same concept.

The overall design needs to be considered more carefully, in theory, before you actually start rendering site elements. You should get some graph paper and come up with at least 2-3 mock ups of something you can be happy with (or at least not hate). When you start to render a draft, hopefully you're using Photoshop or Gimp for this, than use a gray-scale color combination. When you finished making things look "tidy" than will be a good time to work out colors.

It's all about going with a natural flow. Have fun!

    wirefaming?

Posted on Mar 23, 2010 at 1:42 AM

I think you have headed straight to photoshop without wireframing first, you might benefit from doing that stage now. Maybe you have tried to make too trendy looking site, it might be better to just align things in rows and columns.

I agree with you.... this need to be handled using some wire frame tool and after going through the all process i.e. accessibility testing, usability testing, designing etc... then only it should proceed to the development of the application....

    Hi kyle,

I visited your website and following the suggestion I have: 1. search could be a search field only and when user hit the search button then it should either land on to the result page or result should appear using jquerly/ajax control which will light up once the search button got hit.

    1. removing the big search block will give the breathing space to your design and call of action will be visible properly

    2. visual are very basic... work on visuals and use the white background.

too busy, cluttered and bad colors

Posted on Mar 26, 2010 at 3:26 PM

    Kyle,

If you can. try to start all over. Before proceeding, make a wire frame of all the pages, put efforts on usability.

    Not enough research

Posted on Mar 28, 2010 at 5:39 AM

I think you have been assertions later in the research, design elements are placed somewhat randomly and lack of finesse in the graphics research is felt.

The colors and layout of the text is not very stable.

I think we should have more power lines in your design so as to improve its structure.

    oh man...

Posted on Mar 29, 2010 at 9:52 AM

Too busy, too much action, too messy. This looks like my mom's PC desktop.

Use a pad and pen and sketch out a wireframe. Buy books on webdesign. Buy magazines. Look at other websites. Start over and think creatively. Learn learn learn. Look for inspiration. Learn what you like and don't like. Messy is not creative. Messy brings migraines.

    The colors.

Posted on Mar 23, 2010 at 9:47 AM

This site it overwhelming and unappealing, esp. the colors. The icons with the photos/labels on the first page are a good idea, but again the colors don't work.

    Start over

Unfortunately I think you need to start this design over. It's very random, cluttered and misaligned. I think this would really benefit from a fresh start.

    layout

Posted on Mar 25, 2010 at 4:55 AM

Nice use of colors, but the layout is all over the place. Everything seems to be flying around, I see no secure ground where everything is standing. Try this: dont look at it for a day or so, then open it back up and you will see it differently.

Yellow is a bad, high contrast color. Use it sparingly, if at all.
